A 20-minute brisk walk can reduce risk of depression, study finds

I always feel better after I go for a walk, so I try to do it daily. I usually go for 30-40min. The goal isn’t the destination, but the walk in itself, is a good motto to live by.

When I have been ill or fatigued I have gone for shorter walks, like 10-15 minutes. Anything is better than nothing I guess.

Walking usually helps me feel better.

There was also study last year that suggested as little as 2-5 minutes of walking after a meal can help reduce blood sugar to the extent that it lowered your overall risk of diabetes. And even if you have diabetes, it still helps.

It seems like you can’t go wrong with walking.

The key is Briskly. Get that heart rate up a little bit because it really does matter. You’ll be surprised the results you’ll get and it’s all so good.

I walk briskly 15 minutes a day. Sometimes I do 30. You don’t need to do extreme exercise to see benefits.

I walk daily but it doesnt really do much for mood for me. I just know its a good idea to do it. I get more benefit from appreciating some nice scenery when im out for a walk. Or just sitting on a bench

I walk a lot. Always briskly. It lifts my mood when I’m down, but not when deeply depressed.

Thanks for asking…

My body is good. Leg is normal. I can walk. I can breathe well, mostly. My heart does not bother me. Blessings I wasn’t very aware of before, but quite relevant.

Emotionally it is rough though. Fear of death and afterlife mess with my head. Quite acutely if I’m feeling out of breath. It makes me look back and think: I did everything wrong, I want to live more and do better. Not die. And the blood thinner seems to make me delusionally depressed. Which is creepy and complicated. So I admitted myself to a ward.

How are you? Are you well?

That’s great to hear.

I’m doing alright besides that my sleep schedule is messed up.

I’m doing well since I’m back on my AD which my pdoc took me off without tapering.

I see her tomorrow again so we’ll see what she has in store this time around :grinning:

I walk somewhere like 3500 steps per 35 mins. Is that considered brisk? I try to walk fast but I can only do that to some extent. I am good at sitting and doing sedentary activities Lol… Maybe need to hit the gym or start doing some stretches at home.

I believe it. I have trouble walking that much due to my arthritis but when I do walk a fair distance I feel emotionally improved.

I struggle with sleep schedule. Lately I’ve been doing well. Schizophrenics seem to have that issue.
