5-HTP for Schizophrenia?

Hi,

I am currently taking a cocktail of supplements that work great (L-Tyrosine, L-Tryptophan, Vitamin D3, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, and American Ginseng). However just yesterday I developed a burning sensation in my entire body, I did some research on the internet and apparently it is characteristic of a reaction to L-Tryptophan, I stopped taking it and the burning sensation is leaving, it is about 70% gone now, I should be OK tomorrow morning. It is a shame because it helped me alot, I can never take it again. I have been doing some searching looking for a replacement for it, L-Tryptophan converts into serotonin in the body so I need something that will support serotonin levels in the body. Apparently 5-HTP (hydroxytryptophan) will do this without the side effects. Has anyone tried 5-HTP? If so what did it do? Thanks

I’ve taken 5-htp but that was for an eating disorder which did help. I also remember that i couldn’t sleep from taking it. I’m since diagnosed with bipolar though so i think its contraindicated for people who experience mania. Sorry didnt know whether to reply as you specify schizophrenia. But just thought i’d add what it did help me with.

I take 200 mg of 5-HTP every day. 100mg in the morning, and 100 at night. It seems to have pretty much lifted the depression
