It seems longer.
I joined AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) in 2003. Then got drunk while psychotic 4 years ago. I also ended up in hospital. I could be celebrating 15 years sober now. Ah well. I’m just happy to be sober and sane. I consider myself pretty lucky.

If you drink just the once… under those circumstances, personally I would still say it was 15 years, I would say “ 15 years with the exception of …”
Thanks, but crushingly that’s not the way it works in AA. I think it’s a good thing to be honest. Keeps me honest about my alcoholism.
