I’m currently on both Zyprexa and Haldol but due to the Haldol shortage I’m thinking of just going to Zyprexa. Anybody tried this? I ended up on both medications due to some serious episodes about 5 years ago but haven’t had any signs of Schizophrenia since.
For those who have tried Haldol and Zyprexa which one do you like better?

I’ve only been on injections of Haldol in hospitals and I’ve been on Zyprexa tablets.
Haldol is highly effective for me.
Zyprexa not so much.
Everyone is different.
I prefer Haldol.
They both work for me to different degrees, I think at higher doses the Zyprexa is probably the more tolerable of the two and seems to help with anxiety better. When I had episodes my main problem was delusions and magical thinking but over time I’ve learned a lot about how things really work and have acquired common sense. I’ve been lowering the meds for the past few years to function better and drive a car better. So far it’s been successful except for some PTSD/anxiety that the drugs were masking that comes out when I lower the dose. Right now I’m at 5mg Zyprexa and 1mg Haldol. I was at 2mg Haldol with the 5mg Zyprexa and was happy with that but I’ve had to taper lower with my supply due to the Haldol shortage. I could try and slowly work my way off the haldol and maybe go to 7.5mg Zyprexa. I’m just thinking out possible paths at this point.
I tried haldol only once while in the hospital. Haldol kept me up all night with severe akithisia. I was on Zyprexa at one time too. It was very good for all my sza symptoms but I gained 30 pounds on it practically overnight. No good.
I prefer zyprexa just strictly in treating my symptoms, but hate zyprexa for the side effects it gave me (weight gain)

I prefer Haldol. Zyprexa causes big time weight gain - worse than seroquel
It’s strange, Risperdal and Abilify were big weight gaining drugs for me, I was up 30 to 40 pounds on them but not Zyprexa… I’m only up about 10-15 pounds on it after 5 years. I think at this point I’m leaning more towards going to a single drug with Zyprexa. I remember at one time being on a high dose of haldol alone and feeling too zombie like and choking on my spit a few times a day. Bad memories. Low dose haldol is fine though.
I refuse to mess around with first generation antipsychotics.
I prefer haldol. I think it works better for me.
I hate zyprexa, but I loath Haldol. Geodon and Seroquel are what helps me.
