Is haldol less sedating than zyprexa

I have been on zyprexa for over a year and whilst it is great for positive symptoms it makes me very tired and I don’t get much done.

My Pdoc has said I can switch to haldo but I am wondering if it is worth it.
Has anyone tried both zyprexa and Haldol, does Haldol give you more energy?
Are the side effects on haldol worse?

Zyprexa was about equally sedating in lower doses, but with higher doses of haldol I found it way worse. But I was never in really high doses of zyprexa, so maybe it’s the same way? Higher doses of haldol and I can’t even sort of function. I’m a zombie and can barely keep my eyes open.

Thanks for answering. What dose of haldol are you on if you don’t mind me asking, do you feel you have good levels of energy on it?

I’m on 14mg plus sometimes 4 more, PRN. Anything more than 16-18mg makes me suuuuuuper sedated. I’m in the process of deciding if I want to switch to the shot to see if I can take more without it making me too sleepy.

I have average energy on it. I don’t need naps or anything and am able to chase a toddler around all day. But, like I said, anything more than 16-18mg and it’s like a switch. I go from fine, maybe a little more sedated, to like a brick wall, can’t function, can’t keep my eyes open, staring at a wall all day because I don’t have energy for anything else.

I’m on zyprexa and it’s great but I also take it with Prozac which is very uplifting and energizing.

I have been on haldol and zyprexa on similar doses (haldol 1-5mg and zyp 2.5-10mg). Both were sedating, but zyprexa maybe even more than haldol. In the beginning on zyprexa I would even faint and I only wanted to sleep and eat. On haldol I am somewhat sedated, but not as much I think. Or maybe im just used to it.

Thanks haldol seems to be winning at the moment but I guess I could try taking the zyprexa with an anti -depressant like psychotic psyduck.

In my experience, I’ve tried both at different times and can conclude that haldol was more sedating than the zyprexa.

I have to add that haldol was more of an emotion blunter and zyprexa had more physical side effects and worse withdrawal. So it depends on which side effects you prefer.

I could not tolerate Haldol at 5mg so I used to cut it in half and I still felt like I was hit by a truck.
I just can’t handle it.

Zyprexa makes me feel a crushing tiredness that no amount of caffeine can fix.
