You're the boss, please hide your problems better

My supervisor was drunk at work today. I came in at my usual time and the woman boss told me to go help the other boss at the motor pool… She said I would be stripping and waxing floors all day with him. I walked over to the motor pool to help him and all the equipment was there; a buffer, a wax stripper, plenty of yellow wet floor signs.
He had me help him move chairs and tables. I was walking behind him as we both carried chairs and I saw him stagger and almost fall into the wall. I though he was just tired but a minute later I was near him and I smelt alcohol on him. I didn’t do it on purpose and I tried to hide that I smelt it but he caught on and two minutes later he tells me I’m done and that all he needed me for was to help him move furniture. I know that he was freaking out that I smelt it on him and he got rid of me to compose himself and think what he was going to do next. I felt sorry for him even though he’s a jerk most of the time. I didn’t want to know he was drunk.

Man, dude has some balls on him :joy:
Reminds me of my job at the motorcycle dealer. I used to have to fill an emptry trailer at smart and final with fancy water, red bulls and Coronas. My bosses we’re boozin all the time!

Are you going to report him? Or have a talk with him?

I guess I’ve been on the straight and narrow path too long. I got clean and sober in 1990 and I don’t do anything illegal or cause trouble anymore. So I thought what he did was inappropriate on an army base.

I’m not going to report him. I accidentally got a co-worker at a different job fired and I felt terrible about it and I would never do that again. We don’t work with dangerous equipment or do anything complicated so I will let him be and mind my own business.

Ya, an alcoholic mind is very different, I can look back now after only 2 years and facepalm about too many drunken things I’ve done and thought no one noticed 🤦

Your a good Egg @77nick77 . I’ve had issues with alcohol in my past and I’d do the same. I wouldn’t report him either. Hopefully it’s a wake up call for him! You can only do what you can do and some kindness may help you in the future!

I was responsible for a bit of a blow-up at my workplace. The youngsters (30 and under) would – a couple of times per week – pour shots for each other or have a beer or two in their offices in the afternoon. I was unpopular for pointing out that we are licensed professionals with a fiduciary responsibility to our clients and that the behavior was COMPLETELY inappropriate. Also, dangerous to me as an AA member. Threatened to go to HR over it.

Still happens a bit when they think I’m not looking, but no longer weekly.
