I’ve worked hard and had money. I’ve been broke as shite too.
It sucks having no money and we really don’t need people to be poor in this world when people can privately send penile shaped spacecraft to space…but.
I’ve been raised in a positive, emotionally secure environment so I rely on family and friend help and that is what is important. Yes. Money is so much fun and just makes it so much easier when you have it but honestly I do ok getting by without it which I’ve done in life.
Good luck to all. May fortune find you whilst your being brave…and if not may you overcome the pangs of poverty because in the modern world poverty and lack of choice really sux. Wealth gives you choices that others don’t have and that is cool if you’ve earned it but seriously. Stuff inherited wealth and earn your right to society. I’d do great with a good money background too but I’d be darned more kind to fellow human beings.
I’m considered below the poverty limit and I use resources such as subsidized housing and the food bank, but I’m better off than a lot of the folks who go to my clubhouse…they don’t have a place to sleep that’s reliable, or access to groceries, or a car. I’m so blessed to have an apartment, enough food, a vehicle, a dog, and a good support system. Having more money would probably make my life easier but compared to some my life is very rich. I also don’t spend money on drugs, alcohol, gambling, or debt, so I am able to save a little each month for emergencies. But even if I was rich, I’d still have mental illness and would only be able to afford better care since I wouldn’t have to find a provider who will accept Medicaid. I guess then money could make a real difference…
I ran into a couple of people in a private psychiatric hospital who had inherited a lot of money and who were totally miserable. In some situations money can be a detriment to a happy life. If I had the money I would keep enough to be secure, seeking comfort and not luxury. I’ve read on the internet about people who won the lottery and blew it all in a shockingly small amount of time. One guy staged a demolition derby in his back yard. There are people dying of hunger, and this guy is doing stupid stuff like that. What a waste.
I agree. As long as I am able to pay my bills, feel comfortable, and have a decent lil entertainment budget, I am fine.
It may sound a bit cliche, but I really do think that happiness is something you find within yourself.
Edit: there is definitely a boundary where money affects standard of living. If you fall below that threshold then you will def have a tough time. (wanted to make sure I wasn’t sounding like a “pull up your boot straps” a**hole)
I think it helps to have an emergency fund in case you need it. That should normally equate to 3 to 6 months of expenses. Besides that you have investments which are nice to have but you can live without.
Maybe I have it easy talking because I currently live with my mom and have zero expenses besides education.
I don’t know if I would buy a house. It would be a big commitment. I’m 65 years old and don’t have much good credit. I’d have to look at my options. They have a lot of duplexes where I live. That might work for me.
Sounds nice man!! I’m only 36 but I might not have a long life so I can kinda feel you on that. I won’t lie tho … if my symptoms every subsided I’m gonna take a crack at financial security frfr
Money is the root of all evil . When bad people have money they don’t help others they spend it on themselves. And or on other thangs that are meaningless instead of things to help one’s future. So many topics I could go on and on but I won’t ( thank God) right LOL
I always took it as the love of money is the root of all evil. And I admit I do love money so of course I’m dealing with evil whatever evil is the definition of it. Which brings the next issue what is the definition of evil. I think evil is a very broad subject.
Yea …I kinda agree with the poet . It can be a bad thing but it doesn’t have to. But as far as I’m concerned…if I get better I will try to be as financially secure as I can. Money has real value bro!!!
I’m not rich, but I have some for retirement and enough for a rainy day or an emergency.
I work a job that I truly enjoy. I am a salesman and get paid for something that brings me happiness. I think, really, this is what we are seeking: a job that you enjoy and that can earn you money. I don’t think sales is for everyone, but imagine getting paid to talk to people. And the more people you talk to, the more you can earn. Gets one out of their shell, elbows out some demons, and keeps you fed.
I am in the process of building a guest house. My family is helping out because I’ve done well despite my shortcomings. You don’t need money per se, but you need to have the courage and strength to work so that opportunity and money starts to work in your favor.
