You can forgive, but you can't forget

My mom said that about my dad cheating on her and then the got back together for a while, but when she left him, she told him that. I have the same issue with my father, I can forgive him all I want, which is daily…I don’t want to hate my dad for what he did all his life to my family. but I can’t forget it, it keeps popping up…dangit…have trouble letting go of things wronged against you?

I don’t understand the expectation that everything has to be forgiven?

I won’t forgive my brother for calling me a mental piece of ■■■■. I don’t accept being treated that way.

@shutterbug I don’t want to carry hatred in my heart. I’m trying to get over it…kind of tricky when he was such a ■■■■■■■.

Ya, for some reason I think of two people every day who still piss me off by things they said to me even though I’m pretty sure I forgave them. I don’t know why I still think about them every day. They’re both idiots and can’t do anything to me now.

You don’t have to actively hate someone, but I don’t think that anyone who rapes a kid or tortures a puppy ever gets to walk away from it. They need that crap tatted on their forehead so everyone knows who/what they are dealing with.

@shutterbug well there are unforgivable things like that yes…but with my dad I just carry a lot of bitterness and I don’t want that baggage.

Oh, that’s easy. Just carry your hatred in someone else’s heart.
