I agree that violent schizophrenics should be ālocked upā (psyche ward if delusions seem to be the root cause) in some form or fashion. At least until they are stable, if sz has was the cause of their violence, for sure. You cant have violent people wandering the streets, schizophrenic or not.
Im not sure how long this will last with the liberal/conservative bent to it , though. Might be considered political. IDK.
I mean, yeah delusionary schizophrenics should be in psyche ward of hospital.
But if you go by no locking up schizophrenics, I , as a stable sz I could go stab someone in the eye and go scott free. (Jail if its not positive symptom in nature, I guess.)
What happened on that subway was horrible
That guy who stabbed that poor innocent woman has no business being on the streets
This is why I fear encountering homeless people on the street.

In my opinion every person who commits a violent crime should be punished and rehabilitated regardless of health.

violent people in general should be locked up regardless of any condition, why do they zoom in on suspects with sz even tho only 10% of violent crimes are sz havers, and mainly those who do hard drugs

Just from a financial pov (putting aside human decency), it costs more to ālock upā a person with schizophrenia who is violent than it would to fund mental healthcare which will significantly reduce the number of people with schizophrenia who are violent.
The government is talking out of both sides of its mouth: Cutting Medicaid and mental health access and services while complaining about people with schizophrenia who are violent.
If the government is truly outraged, if theyāre truly outraged, then do something about it: Improve access to mental health care, build more clinics, hire more psychiatrists, free medication, hire more therapists, hire more social workers, hire more substance abuse counselors, etc.
If the government actually wants to significantly reduce the number of people with schizophrenia who are violent theyāll do this, but I donāt think they will. Their outrage is disingenuous. A political talking point cloaked in a ātough on crimeā shroud.
The facade is getting old.

There are 2 separate things at play here, though.
You can be a delusionary person with sz who needs mental health help.
Or you could be a violent person who is not delusionary (who may even be stable), who just happens to have sz.
The former maybe should get mental health , but why should the latter get any special treatment just because they happen to have a label.
If you say no schizophrenics can be put in jail I , as stable schizophrenic, could go out an murder someone and get nothing but mental health treatment.
I saw the video and read the story. Dude was definitely delusional as heck and there was a racial motivation, but i think the delusional aspect is the most important. The video was so disturbing i cant get it out of my head. Avoiding social media over it

Iām not saying that people with schizophrenia should get special treatment simply because they have schizophrenia, or that a person with schizophrenia cannot be put in jail, but I am saying that the vast majority of people with schizophrenia who are violent are not receiving psychiatric treatment.

I have come accross two instance of mentally ill people how they were treated.
I wonder was the mentally ill was ill or the general people around them.
Yes please lock them not a death sentence.
I used to read news before falling ill.

A person asks for drinking water from a home. And the lady goes in to get water. And this mentally ill person grabs the kid from home and use the kid as a weapon breaking things around him using the kid. He was stoned to death.

A mentally ill person goes to a religious site which is not accessible to general people and touchs it. He was beaten to death.

I think it is a combination of being a murderer and having sz. What if every bodyā¦.who did these shootings didnāt have sz? Then what would have happened? I donāt know the answer to that question. Maybe somebody on this site can explain it. I am not sure but I think around half of the people with sz would not have did these shootings.
Ima say something controversial you can be a person who has a mental illness that are simply a bad person or LGBT and a terrible person BUT
NOT ALL PEOPLE WITH MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES OR THAT ARE LGBT ARE ROTTEN FREAKING PEOPLE
donāt deny that there are bad people in every demographic seriously itās bullsh!t to say othetwise

I feel like if its sz related they should have special non punitive facilities for them. I know most people think people who harm are bad but I think we should do our best to correct and not punish out of vengeance.
If they are violent because of sz mh facilities
If they have other issues then correction facilities
We have to accept violence as a human problem and include those peoole and try to help them.. happy healthy people dont go around hurting each otherā¦ the violators need help not more punishment
I say all that as a person with sz who also has some violence in his past..both due to sz and other issues.
iām scared of schizophrenia - and i have it; as for violence. it takes insight to prevent that, if i was off meds for two months straight and no functioning iād demand in my sane senses that i be hospitliased because iknow how serious the illness can be and feel
nobody has 100% insight, but they have protection mechanisms which save both us and non psychotic citizens. this is why i think in the uk; dismantling the police contirbution to sections is a bad thing, if they were to stay in the know - schizophrenia wouldnt be demonised
as long as normals arenāt getting refuge for being mentally illā¦i am all for letting the sz criminals be stable first then go to courtā¦
Violent people should be locked up. Violent people who have schizophrenia should receive appropriate treatment and incarceration for their illness.

Iām sorry you had to witness that @Moon. I witnessed something similarly very disturbing today with a clip of the Charlie Kirk murder. I almost canāt get that out of my head.

Yeah Iām thinking that maybe bringing back mental institutions might be a good idea.
I donāt know if placing violent schizophrenics in prison solves the issue.
They need treatment and a safe place away from the public.
