Y2K fashion is here in full force

I’m an old millennial and was very aware of fashion during actual Y2K era.

Paris Hilton was setting all the trends.

Dear gods,

It was a dark, dark time for fashion.

I cannot believe the children are choosing to wear this.

The jeans were cut so low they barely cleared your pubic hair.

Everyone looked fat in them.

Even the super thin girls.

It’s just not flattering on anyone.

The thongs!

Lest we forget.

Wearing a thong with the sole intent of having it be seen when you sit down or bend over.

Usually highlighting your very unique butterfly tramp stamp.

The shirts were all babydoll cut.

Regardless of how cute the shirt is, how thin you are, you look pregnant.

Sorry about it.

It’s a horrible cut that has to be tailored within an inch of it’s life to even look halfway decent.

The “chunky” shoes.

The ultra layered haircuts.

Those kinds of highlights that don’t blend.

All the dudes dressing like Eminem.

Dudes wearing one ear ring, but only in the correct ear.

Fake scar marks shaved into eyebrows.

If your tacky clothes were expensive enough,

It was also in fashion to just leave those tags on.

Not to return them after a couple days,

Just to let everyone know you purchased a $200 white t-shirt.

I could seriously go on forever.

Are you aware these clothes will once again be assaulting your eyeballs?

Just a public service announcement.

Friends don’t let friends wear low rise jeans.

I was 9 and 10 in 2000 so still in elementary school. I never knew anything about fashion and I just wore whatever clothes and shoes my dad bought for me. I’ve never paid any attention to fashion.

Kids always want to rebel and look different from the generation before them.

No one wants to look like their parents.

And nothing is new, only regurgitated. Kids can only look backwards and make it new.

I was a teen during this time and I wore the super low jeans and thong. Also the jeans were bleached/worn out in the thighs so they were lighter colour than the rest of the jeans.

I was so happy to see this fashion go away but it is back now and it is horrible

… Though starting to wear gothic clothing at the age of 15 saved me from the horrible bimbo look. That’s when I found my style in clothing and I’m still dressing up gothic.

We are similar in that regard.

In middle school I was saved from looking dumb simply because my mom refused to buy designer clothes or anything that wasn’t on clearance.

The super trendy clothes were expensive.

By the time I could buy my own clothes,

I also had gone goth.

My junior and senior year I was not goth,

But had a unique aesthetic going.

I wasn’t victim to many of the trends I mentioned.

That doesn’t mean I wasn’t wearing tacky ■■■■,

It was tacky,

Just not Paris Hilton tacky.

Thank gods for goth phase, right?

There’s always gonna be tacky.

Tacky never goes out of style.

My gothic phase has lasted 20+ years and is still going on! Seriously I was very insecure and needed attention back then. I dressesd up slutty and wore ultra mini skirts and flimsy tops. I wonder how my mother let me look like that. But I used to change outfits when coming to school so my mom didn’t know what I was wearing… Now I feel horrible that I looked like that. I was very young and very troubled. Hungry for attention and love.

We all have worn regrettable things in high school.

Nothing to feel bad about.

At least we were wearing that ■■■■ before real online social media as we know it now.

Very little evidence exist I even went through those phases.

Haha!

The worst fashion trend I followed was jinco jeans in the sixth grade. I had one pair and loved them though. It’s a fond memory. I was kinda in limbo until mid junior high when I started skating and just wore Levi’s, skate shoes, a shirt, and hoodie when cold. I haven’t noticed this trend where I live. I heard that baggy pants and a small top were coming back. Idk I live in Arkansas and I’m around older people. Everyone dresses in their own way. I know that men may wear sweats these days.

I had a pair of jncos.

Oooo.

They were super tacky.

Also had a couple of Lee’s “Pipes” that were less expensive but still in trend.

Yeah I didn’t have a lot of money and they were like $50 so I only ever had one pair. I wore the ■■■■ out of them though. I felt so cool. They had a bright orange, yellow, and red stripe down the side. They still make them. I looked them up about a year ago out of curiosity.

There was a thrift shop in my town that was owned by maybe a Filipino guy. He was awesome. His shop was mainly Levi’s. I mean a shop full of them. He’d find the cool stuff and sell them at a slightly higher price than the good will or where ever. I exclusively wore 501’s for years.

Thank god social media wasn’t a big thing when I was young. I would never be able to live the things I did down.

The only good Y2K trend were those sexy platform flip flops. :yum:

I concur lol

I like platform sandals.

I think some people can pull off the y2k look.

Not me though.

Rock and roll ma’am! :joy:

I don’t think I can pull off a Y2K look either.

I think the fashionista law for 40 year old men dressing like Eminem might be a death sentence, or the bare minimum being 20 years of hard labor working at the Gap.

:flushed:
