Churches here started to have theirs pester people on disability pay after horrible mental care here that took advantage of PTSD victims of sex abuse, cracking them up to discredit them instead of keeping them able to work. Mostly likely you are told ‘nothing is wrong with you’ because the people that turned to that church for relief heard the voices a long time too…However, dirty businessperson who runs a lot of these churches is a terrible task master and monster indeed if you try to turn to a big church for relief, getting you possibly harmed financially, threatened and harassed by more people. Saw local churches trying to put men on single moms, even with intent to get her fired or hurt. Old people’s money stolen because they use check to tithe and she left keys in coat pocket during services so someone started busting stuff in her home or stealing, told she will go be a stalker so she will be left alone by GAWD at her church.
What doesn’t show on mental care patients? - Chronic insomnia, state law limits refills of sleep drugs so you have 3-7 days a month without sleep meds plus coming down off habit forming drugs during this time, mistreated so badly by the nuts who follow orders from the voices you could get fired/sexually harassed out without unemployment pay in some cities and a growing state of depression as these kind just swarm you will their jealousy because we got the check. Cops who try to ruin you or get psych evaluation whenever they had contact with you, you have legitimate complaint and you are acting civil.
it does sound offensive though…for some reason
take care
I don’t see this as a yes or no question. It would depend on the context. If someone said it in a disparaging way I would get angry, but if it was meant in a non-demeaning way I wouldn’t mind it.
There are some programs, and some who submit to them, who just impose structure. That might be okay if they were really as altruistic as the advertised themselves to be. They are often exploitative of cheap labor. These employers say things like, “When my grandfather worked he got twenty cents an hour working in a coal mine.” They think we should be grateful to get lower than minimum wage wages.
Doesn’t bother me, I call myself a schizo because I am 1, not offensive
I don’t know… If someone just called me a schizo… I’d probably pretend I didn’t hear them and then avoid them and go talk to someone else.
depends on the circumstance. Yes I think it is a derogatory word, but then I guess it would depend more on WHO exactly called me a schizo.
I am however at the moment thoroughly sick of certain derogatory words…sick.
I call myself schizo sometimes, and my friends and family are allowed to say it in a joking way or as a reality check (I dunno CJ, you sound pretty schizo when you talk about the credit card microchips). I mind when someone else uses it to make fun of me or another person.
Not from a fellow schizo. I think we need to take ownership of the term like black people did with the n-word.
I have been called schizo by plenty of people in both a derogatory and non-derogatory way. None of it bothers me. No disrespect to people who are offended by what people say, but in my mind it’s like ooooh you called me a WORD! A word that has no physical power over me whatsoever.
I call myself a schizo inside my head but I would have to judge by the tone of voice if someone else called me by that tag
Cheers kate xxx
surprised at the results… the term imo increases stigma, like we are outcasts or violence-prone. I come from a fairly conservative family, and I rarely (come to think of it, never) here words like schizo mentioned. I guess the best way I reason this is what if my relative or friend was to speak of me to another person and used the word schizo? to me, this is insensitive and downright offensive to the both people in conversation. it doesn’t take a whole lot more effort to say ‘person with sz.’
Yes, a cop referred to me as “just another schizo” when he was putting me in the back of his cruiser to take me to the psyche ward. I was very offended and insulted. And surprised that someone in his position could be so insensitive and unaware of how his words could be taken. It’s only happened once in my 35 years with schizophrenia.
But does take on the same aspect ratio f racial slurs fine for us to use but offensive when others use it? I’m not sure
I’ve seen “sz” used around here a lot. Is that kind of the accepted terminology?
Never been called a schizo by the cops, but was once referred to as a ‘10-96’ – that’s the Ten Code for mental subject. That one stayed with me for a while.
Pixel.
Yeah it’s just the abbreviation
But don’t you think it can carry a negative connotation?
Morning schizos
