Working on a worst case scenario... my mum might be starting dementia while being sole caregiver to my schizophrenic sister living with her

I’m not sure how this is going to work

I suppose people just plough on

You might check to see if your mum might want your help in dealing with your sister. It doesn’t have to be anything major. Just see if she wants the front porch swept, and the trash taken out. Your mother might need someone to just hang around while she helps your sister. One of my pdoc’s once told me that just having someone there can be a big help to a person. Maybe you could hang around two or three hours every other day, more or less.

The s,h. I t hit the fan, my sister is drinking again
I have an appointment for my mum and I to be in my home in the garden and talk

We also discussed my fears about my mums memory loss.

I can see her functioning in some things where I feel better than before but some seems beyond the normal aging process makes me more scared as well

She forgot where her most visited of 18 years post office was, confused that there was one in that district

That can’t be stress?

I’m going to get driving lessons and get back to safe driving
I’ve crashed frequently but it might be just carelessness

They have pills that treat dementia, but they aren’t considered psychotropic medications. Maybe you should talk to a doctor about your mom. As for your sister, try to set limits with her that she understands. An alcoholic in the throes of a binge is very hard to handle. Just try to keep the damage to a minimum. I think stress can make you forget familiar things. I’m 61, I’m under some stress, and I’ll get up to do something and I will forget what I wanted to do. That happens because my mind is on something else. That could be the case with your mom.
