Working nights for years and maybe Ehlers Danlos syndrom

I have been working nights for years and always suspect sleep problems were the reason I was misdiagnoised with schizophrenia. It happened to a member here that I read about. How could this be misdiagnoised as schiziophrenia and how are you tested? My doctor said it’s too rare and I’m not understanding. That is not nice of him to say there are alot of threads here about it.

Why are you fighting the diagnosis, you don’t want to take meds?

This other member was misdiagosed. It’s possible I am. My post says nothing about medication.

I know it doesnt say anything about medication, but that is what most aim to do when they deny they have schizophrenia, is stop medication

Jumping to conclusions is a bad habit.

Ok you are skeptical that you have schizophrenia, may or may not want to take medicine.

Look at your own symptoms and experiences. Most people who work nights have no problem with psychosis. Psychiatric medicine will help you avoid psychosis even if you dont have schizophrenia but something else. Ehlers Danlos is a connective tissue disorder

A member of that thread said they were misdiagnosed with schizophrenia and actually had Ehlers Danlos.

Sometimes what people are saying doesnt really make sense.

Sometimes psychosis is caused by lack of sleep, but the reason the person isn’t sleeping is often another symptom. You worked nights.

Does Ehlers Danlos have psychosis?

The user said their schizophrenia was a misdiagnosis and was EDS. They don’t even have to take medication for it anymore. I could be like that too.

Yes, there are misdiagnoses. Most of the time when someone has psychosis they will have it again. Medication prevents further psychosis. If you dont think you will have psychosis again you might try stopping medication, but after how many relapses into psychosis will you need for proof?

I have not talked about my medical history here and you are frankly being rude.

Sorry if that sounds rude, but schizophrenia is a certain set of symptoms, so if you have recurring psychosis for another reason you will have to find out what it is and get treatment for that.

You said diagnosed schizophrenia

You are coming off as hostile. EDS fortunately does not cause psychosis. Other disorders beyond menta health can, but not EDS. I would take any posts here with a grain of salt. We are not medical professionals and you can’t trust everything you see online.

Sometimes I say comments and people accuse me of all types of stuff. I just limit my comments now. Advice.

This advice was from a credible moderator.Sleep Deprivation Psychosis Misdiagnosed As Schizoaffective - #5 by Ninjastar

And I am not hostile. That member jumped to conclusions about things I never discussed.

Sleep deprivation psychosis is real. But it is not caused directly by EDS, the psychosis. I’ve had sleep deprivation hallucinations and can tell you they aren’t as long lasting as psychosis from a primary psychotic disorder.

I am a bartender and have a completely flipped schedule. Have for a very long time and it is difficult to sleep during the day even with blackout curtains.
