Work we have put into the house and condo this year

This list is as much for me as it is for anyone else. Just thinking to day that we have done so many home improvements to date for only being here for 5 or 6 months.

  1. Stripped and refinished wood floors.
  2. Repaired toilet pipe to stack that was leaking
  3. Replaced soffits and fascia(spelling)
  4. Replaced gutters
  5. Replaced water heater
  6. Temp repaired cracks in shower surround
  7. replaced water pipe to house
  8. Fixed drainage on furnace
  9. Bought and installed Washer and dryer
  10. Recently I had to take apart bathroom sink piping to unclog and put back together
  11. Installed new garage door
  12. Fixed garage after ran into, fixed large door and service door
  13. Removed tree on side of house
  14. unburied sidewalk on side of house
  15. Fixed attic door
  16. Replaced broken window in attic
  17. Reinforced spongy front deck.
  18. Painted front deck
  19. Fixed leaky faucet in tub
  20. Patched leaky spot in foundation
  21. Replaced Front and back doorknobs
  22. Put plastic in windows for the cold months
  23. In condo, tore up and had carpeting replaced
  24. IN condo, repaired cracked walls and peeling paint
  25. IN condo repaired window that would not open
  26. Replaced lattice on porch
  27. Caulked some spots where windows leaked

Thats all I can think of atm but there is probably more.

Some of this we had to pay for and some did on our own, so I imagine its easy to see why our finances have been strained between paying for both the condo and the house and all the repairs and upgrades.

Next years projects include :

  1. Fixing fencing so it goes all the way around the house. sides of house do not have closable gates.
  2. Removing old nasty shed and possibly replacing
  3. Possibly replacing windows if we can afford it
  4. cleaning up all the overgrown tree and shrubs on fence line
  5. Possible roof related repair. Its soft in spots
  6. Removing old chimney
  7. Burning off or disposing off all the wood, and other materials that were not removed from yard during construction on soffits and tree/ wood removal
  8. Trimming trees by back driveway

There is probably more here as well but thats all I can think of

As you can see our done list is longer than the to do list.

Still have a fair amount to do , though.

In the past month, I just had two new roofs put on one on the house I grew up in and one on a rental house. For a whopping total of 28 grand.

And I wanted some backsplash put up to around the sinks in the bathrooms. He gave me a nice estimate of 20 grand. The guy that came out to give an estimate gave me a good spiel about leak proof and mildew resistant and fog resistant glass doors and all this good stuff transferable 40 year warranty or some crazy stuff and I just said no thank you

You must have a good job. How do you afford all that? I couldn’t do that on disability

We both had savings, I work, I had a large disability back payment which left some even after the house purchase, and for some of the jobs, we hired my ex brother in laws people, which may have done some of the work cheaper than a normal contractor would have. Also brother in law did some, like the water heater installation and I paid him. I also did some of it myself with help from family.

I went several years with no money and my back payment was significant.

I would not have purchased this house if I didnt have a decent amount to fix it up…because I knew it was going to need it.

Still, it really has been quite the drain on our resources.

Hopefully, they will be replenished once we are able to sell wifes condo.

When we bought our house, it also needed a lot of work.
This is usually typical.
