I wish I lived somewhere bicycle friendly. my current location isn’t a great place to ride. as there isn’t much shoulder to ride on and these country bumpkins speed and are not used to cyclists on the road. although you do see people riding in the summer.
thinking when I move, I want to live somewhere bicycle friendly so I don’t have to drive anymore. I would just put a couple of baskets on my bicycle so I could haul groceries to my place. Oregon, or at least eugene Oregon is bicycle friendly and I want to move there but I don’t think I can afford it. so im exploring options in the Midwest and a couple places in the south. im also thinking about moving back to my hometown, where I could get around on a bicycle but really I want to move forward with my life and that seems like a backward step.
now I just drive when I have to, which is infrequent, about 6 miles a day, to town and back. just looking forward to my new life, it feels I am in a holding pattern right now. hopefully in the next year I will be able to buy a nice used road bicycle and will try to start riding more.
I don’t want to bike around town, but I’d like to get a bike for exercise. I think I will get one as a present to myself when I’ve lost 20 lbs. I’m worried one won’t hold my weight right now.
was just reading online and came across south bend, Indiana (mayor pete’s town) as a bicycle friendly city in the Midwest. despite living in Indiana, I’ve never been to south bend. it’s about 4 to 4 and half hours north of here by car, so it would be significantly colder in the winter, but they have plenty of economy and I could find a job easy, and I could also find an affordable living situation. i’ll consider moving there as well.
It was cold this morning and I walked to church today and it was no sweat at all. I am delighted about this. Now I know that I don’t have to depend upon friends to get me there by car and I don’t have to spend $12 each way to get there by Uber. That’s outrageous!! I can either walk or even bicycle there if I want to.
that’s great you were able to walk. it does get cold in the winter but I guess I could just layer up if I had to. im also thinking of moving south where winter temps would be pleasant.
