Will Smith hit Chris Rock

It was a bone headed move but cut the guy a break. He’s only human. Of course it could have been handled better. Which one of us hasn’t done something stupid?

He should get the same break I’d get if I walked up to someone and assaulted them for a joke I found offensive. Chances are I wouldn’t get a break. He should thank Chris Rock for not pressing charges.

Maybe he should have been charged with assault but I refuse to bad mouth the guy. He was protecting his wife.

Eh I disagree. His wife was in no danger that would result in a physical altercation. If he wanted to yell at Chris Rock, get up on stage and tell him off, that’s an in-line reaction. He wasn’t a hero defending his wife’s honor, as I believe Jada is an adult who can respond if she needs too. Assault takes things to the next level, and if someone is willing to live with the consequences then that is up to them, but it’s still crime.

Yeah. I know. Like I said in my previous post that he should have been charged with assault but I won’t talk bad about him. Besides he apologized and I believe he was sincere. Chris Rock chose not to press charges. That’s his prerogative. You’ve never done anything stupid in your entire life? Like I said he could have handled it better.

I wonder how Jada feels about all this.

If Jada didn’t cheat on Will, he probably wouldn’t have felt insecure about his masculinity and if he wasn’t insecure he probably would have laughed at the joke instead of slapping Chris Rock.

I’ve never assaulted someone, no. I don’t think we are on the same page about the seriousness of assault and battery and what we consider “doing something stupid” is, which is fine disagreements are cool and make every point of view unique. I’m not trying to start beef or anything, I’m just saying that excusing Will Smith because he is Will Smith doesn’t jive with me. He should be treated the same as anyone else who hits someone because they said something offensive, and I just feel that not calling him out on his crap is one step away from normalizing hitting people for saying offensive things which opens another can of worms.

Does anyone think this was staged?

Chris Rock has been harassing Jada for YEARS since she turned him down. It’s not a new thing.

Also, someone having an actual consequence for making fun of someone’s health problems was kind of nice to see.

As someone who watched staged fighting (pro wrestling) for 20 years, that looked pretty damn convincing to me. I saw nothing in that confrontation that made me think it was staged

Honestly I have a funny feeling that both of them staged the whole incident.
If you look at the footage carefully you’ll see Chris Rock leaning forward exposing his face to Will Smith before he got slapped.
Also if you look carefully you’ll see Will Smith smiling after he slapped Chris Rock.
Plus, Chris Rock refusing to press charges is another indicator that the whole thing was staged.
They both needed the publicity and they sure got it.

Why shouldn’t Chris make a statement saying the the person he made fun of.

I don’t see how this type of publicity does either of them any good. And Will smith resigned from the academy of motion pictures over it. I think Netflix cancelled a movie and Bad Boys 4 was put on hold. If it was staged, it was a very poor error in judgement to do it. It only did harm to Will Smiths career.

I don’t think they expected the fallout.
They exercised poor judgement.

But at least on Will Smiths part he wanted to be in the spotlight

That’s paranoia homie. It goes with the whole sz territory. That whole situation seemed very real and so were the consequences. If they went into it with the idea that they would get publicity they had to have known the consequences would be so severe that it would ruin Will’s career. Both of their careers were doing fine, by the way, because Will won an Oscar that night and Chris was given the hosting role, so they had very little to gain from this whole situation. Neither of them needed the publicity that night as they were both in prominent roles. Like I said, I’ve seen a lot of fake fights and I’ve seen a lot of real fights and nothing about that situation struck me as being staged.

The Oscars have been a joke now for about 20 years.

I’m not surprised they’re slapping people for ratings.

I think the slap was real.

But it sure did help the ratings. And all the news outlets love it too.
