Seeing Pdoc tomorrow. Seroquel ain’t working for me. Killing my sex drive, my erections and turning me into a zombie.
The past week I have been taking half the prescribed dose of Seroquel to feel like myself again. I know I shouldn’t be doing this but I couldn’t take the lack of energy that a 300mg nightly dose of Seroquel was giving me.
Tomorrow I see my Pdoc for a medication change. I know that she wants me to try Saphris…
I have read about some horrible side effects Saphris can give. Despite it being considered low in the likelihood of weight gain, those who have gained weight on it have gained significant amounts.
I just want to find something that doesn’t mess with my sexual drive or function.
Unfortunately, Abilify causes ED for me, as do Risperdal, Invega, Zyprexa and, Seroquel.
Running out of options for AP’s
I just want my Pdoc to put me on 2 mood stabilizers already without any AP but she doesn’t want to do this as this is considered second line of treatment and she wants me on a first line.
I’ve been on Geodon 80 x 2 and Seroquel 400 x 2 for about a decade and a half. They control my symptoms, but they also lessen my sex drive. They also weaken me physically. I am content with this situation because so many of the AP’s make me feel like somebody could scrape me off the soles of their shoes.
I like Saphris a lot but I have no sex drive and couldn’t care less, of course I’m 52 and just got divorced and sex would cause big complications for me right now so I’m really happy I don’t want it. Being hyper sexual has been a problem for me in the past. Now Saphris by itself is very sedating so I take it alone at night but in the morning I also take Rexulti, which counteracts the sleepiness. Just to let you know. I think you can take the full dose at night so you don’t get the sedation in the morning too, if I remember right.
I don’t seem to mind the taste, or the numbness/tingling (and i’m taking the regular one, not the black cherry flavor, although I will ask for that one on my refill)
Sedation doesn’t seem to be a problem on this med for me.
I take 10 mg and it makes me really sleepy, sometimes I forget my morning dose and take all 20mg at night and it really knocks me out. I hope this med works for you, I’ve been doing better and better on Saphris. I’ve really taken control of my life.
I noticed I was nauseous sometime yesterday, which happened again today, which lead me to vomit. I believe this to be a side effect from the Saphris. Hoping this side effect goes away relatively soon.
Update: Saphris at this dose (5mg once a night) is a great medication for me. I don’t experience blurred vision like other APs in the past, including being on 15mg Abilify. I also sleep regular hours and do not need daily naps anymore like when I was taking Abilify. I have more energy throughout the day and have been motivated to start exercising regularly again like I used to. (Now training 5 times a week!)
I have not noticed weight gain while on it either.
The nausea I experienced on Saphris went away after a week of taking it, and has not returned.
Saphris can cause nausea and even some vomiting at first, but this goes away relatively quick.
Still experiencing lack of erections, but that is most likely my prolactin still elevated from before. In 2-3 month’s time, I am hoping to regain my sexual function.
For anyone considering a new AP to try, Saphris is well worth a try. If you can get over the taste since it’s sublingual, it can be a great medication. Personally, the taste does not bother me, and i’m taking the regular version, not the black cherry flavor.
Had allergic and immediate throat swelling on first and only dose. That was a dozy, glad you can get over the vomit feeling, I had the ■■■■ scared out of me. That one is as big no on my file.
Hey Bear- I loved it except sadly I am super sensitive to dystonia and akathisia we have to stop it. It was working. Best of luck and keep us posted we’re rooting for you!!!
Hey @Hollister … Check the dates on previous threads. If it’s over a couple of months its a zombie. Start a new one…
Typically, we like to leave inactive threads alone and just start a new thread instead. This is different than how some forums are run, but we do it this way because it frequently upsets users to have old topics revived when they are no longer relevant. It can also be frustrating to the person who revived the thread when they don’t get a reply, because the original poster is no longer active or no longer finds the topic relevant. Feel free to start a new thread on this topic.
