Wondering about taking a new medication while on zyprexa and invega. I feel myself sitting in bed alot still would be nice to get karxt this year
The decision is supposed to be end of Sept. When it is available after that, hard to say. Maybe early next year if things go well? It will be new and expensive so it likely won’t be covered by public plans for some time to come.
Is medicare a public plan? Will i be able to get my doctor to preauthorize it
I am unsure (I’m Canadian).
For countries outside of the usa, you need to go to your psychiatrist and ask them to write a letter to import the medicine , then take it to relevant departments and to request an import of the medicine. I was told by my minister this is how it works
Not in Canada. We have our own review process that lags the U.S.
When it comes to the U.S.
Release -
“Schizophrenia: KarXT is expected to launch in late 2024 in the U.S. as a treatment for schizophrenia in adults.”
Coverage -
“A frequently overlooked factor is that antipsychotics belong to a Medicare Part D protected drug class, implying automatic coverage for KarXT upon approval.”
Must be nice. Government plans in Canada do everything they can to avoid useful meds. So thankful I have private coverage.
“Need some heart meds? Can’t do it. But here’s some viagra.”
That kind of thing?
More like: Vraylar? Here’s some Haldol. Oh, if it gives you TD that’s too bad – the good meds for that are also too expensive.
They gave me haldol when I was first diagnosed before insurance. Medicare isnt bad at all here, IMO.
When I had medicaid , it paid for everything though. I didnt even have to pay for part of what was owed. When I had both, I actually had good dental too. But, ah well. Dental is my achilles heel now. I pay for it all.
The only bad thing about medicaid is,I think they take it out of your estate, anything after 50 years old you get in benefits.
Edit: When your dead, of course. So no leaving anyone much.
The pharmacare programs up north are administered provincially and vary from one province to the next in terms of coverage. My province is known for being especially bad.
I just looked it up. Its after 55 in iowa.
So, Im glad im on medicare
Apparently in Australia the drugs are approved after it is found to work in the us as per discussions with my psych!
We do have a review process as well but theres something call the special access route for illnesses that has no good treatment atm, its for schizophrenia patients mostly
Ya, doesn’t exist here.
