How long after FDA approval until it goes on the market?
@robertc might know. It’s normally pretty quick in the USA.
It will be at least 8yrs to get it here in Canada. Then another 3yrs for it to be covered by insurance lol
Im not sure when insurance will approve it here in the US
I asked my psychiatrist about this medication during our appointment today. She’s never heard of it. I thought that was interesting.
My psychiatrist is waiting for it to come out so we can try it but idk when insurance will start to approve it
Anyone know when it will be available in the uk?
Well I just read that Medicare has limited ability to deny coverage to FDA approved drugs deemed clinically necessary so maybe I can get it if my Psychiatrist says Im still having symptoms
I’m going to try it as soon as I can too. I’ll see if my insurance will cover it, and if not, when.
After approval, there is the development of pharmacy distribution and insurance coverage. KarXT is now owned by a huge pharma company, so they will know what they are doing. Each insurance organization will have to adopt coverage of a med that might be $1600 a month, maybe more. It might take 1-3 months for many insurance orgs to cover it. The med could even be approved before September.
The pharma company will also hire drug reps to educate prescribers. The pharma owner spent so much buying the med, and it is novel, they might charge a very large amount.
Do you think it will be covered under Medicaid?
Im not sure I would think so eventually
I think most states Medicaid will cover it. But I think Medicaid is run by each state and poorer states might not. They could require special authorization if it is real expensive.
Do you know when it will be approxametly available in uk and ireland?
I read in an article “ A frequently overlooked factor is that antipsychotics belong to a Medicare Part D protected drug class, implying automatic coverage for KarXT upon approval.”
It is up to health authorities in UK and Ireland to authorize approval. They might stall if it is too expensive.
USA drug prices are very high; some countries only approve if the prices are lower.
