Why you work

I started my job as a paperboy back when I was on basic social assistance while my application for disability was being processed. They forced me to get a job and while I didn’t want to I had no choice to work part time. So now that my disability has been processed the truth is I don’t really need the job as the only bills I have to pay is room and board, cellphone and credit card. So I already have more money than I need and since they haven’t offered me social housing yet… Working is not really essential.

I’m trying to get a job. I want one so that I don’t need to depend on anyone including the government to support myself. Also I want to be at least moderately accepted by society and it seems like you need a job to avoid being a pariah

if you don’t want to work more power to you. it was good for my mental health taking some time off but im ready to go back to work

i’d like to work and save till im 65 then retire. but I also anticipate expenses like a summer house and a winter house that $800/mo wont cover… I don’t like the cold winters we get in Indiana

I feel like a pariah despite having a job.

Yeah I guess that can happen regardless. I was kind of a pariah in high school and that was before psychosis

Why wouldn’t you want to receive anything from government. Like in alot of causes we’re told to take drugs that nobody else would take. Hope your a rebel outlaw breaking every crime and law there is. Why take the abuse? I’m going to drain the pockets of every tax paying bastards I ever met. You do realize people pay taxes Because of what they do???!!! Right?

I work to stay active, keep myself busy, make a little bit of money, help my parents out, try to maintain independence and basically don’t have to sit idly. It also allows me to socialize, I work on my language skills, post on this website, watch videos, listen to podcasts and it kills time.

It also keeps my brain moving and I have something to do with my time.

My condition is so bad I can’t work even after 7 years. That would be a wish of mine to be able to work one day. I have tried a lot of medications and none have worked just really bad side effects.

I work to pay for my kids. Disability won’t cover the costs of kids plus supporting me and I am able to at least pretend I am good at my job.

I plan on powering through work as long as possible. I plan on saving money up to retire early due to schizophrenia giving me a potential shorter life expectancy.

It could be good for your mental health if you’re up for it

I don’t know why people work

It is either work or be homeless, rent would take most of the money you get from the government, you would not be able to afford much else, so I will work as long as my body will let me

I worked for over 20 years at very difficult, highly stressful jobs. And I wasn’t very good at any of them. I was always in trouble with the bosses. And the work environment is much more stressful today than it was back in the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s when I was working. I know I wouldn’t be able to cope today. I’m almost retirement age anyway so there’s no sense in thinking about going back to work now. I’m 58.

I need the money, and the group benefits pay for my psychologist and meds

I work because I like money and i like being active and not ruining my heart by being passive all the time.

Health and wealth my friend, health and wealth

You will never catch me not working

I just can’t not work. I love it too much. Sitting around with nothing to do make me crazy.

Well, crazier.

It gives me something to get out of the house for, even if it is only part time

I don’t work because no. 1 I make more money not working than working. I rent out rental property. And no. 2 I have too many health problems both physical and mental to be able to work. And no. 3 I don’t drive and I don’t own a car and I don’t live on the bus line.
