Why why why is showering so hard?

Why is showering so difficult? Many things are but if I could just shower everyday I would be more content with my situation. I go 4 or 5 days sometimes and I am trying. I have a list of strategies I use because I know it’s gross and I don’t want to be gross.

I was showering every day the first year of schizophrenia. The second year not everyday, but every 2 or 3 days. Now, third year of schizophrenia, I shower every 10 days

I’m very frightened about showering or bathing. I cry the whole time I’m in there. It’s awful.

Why are you afraid? I always lock all the doors and windows first and that helps me not be afraid.
I think my brain is aging and so it makes me want to sit all day.

Yeah I think it’s gotten harder over time too. I don’t know. And it feels like the most complicated thing. Not because I think about it but because everything feels like so much work I want to do it but don’t want to at the same time, I’d rather just sit there. And I’m always asked if I feel better after. Not really. Just relieved it’s off my list and that it’s overwith. No I don’t enjoy it.
I think it’s the meds. Apparently they get rid of motivation but this feels way worse then just motivation. I have bp1 w/ psych, schizotypal, gad.
I don’t understand why I don’t just shower and do my normal life now for years now.

I shower everyday, sometimes twice as I get sweaty at the gym. I feel so much better after a shower.

I have mobility issues and I’m so afraid I’ll fall.

A lot of things are hard when you are in the habit of not doing them. You have to work to develop new habits. I’ve got a schedule I stick to and showering is first thing on it. I start every day clean now.

I’ve a bad habit of wandering off in the shower.

I think it’s the water running. My voices amp up, the angels talk to me more. I’ll see dead pets and ghosts standing just outside the shower door.

I’ll Write protection symbols of visions the angels give me onto the glass, as they disappear into the steam they’re taking effect.

When it gets the worst I’ll mark my third eye to protect myself, to open some delusional divine power inside me.

I’ve grown scared of showering. I mostly do it with my fiancée. Occasionally she’ll sit in there with me. I dare not shower home alone unless I know I’m having a good day. Even then I’m sketchy because I don’t want to trigger.

Old me believed the shower was a place to commune with my angels, and the act was somehow sacred.

That must be very difficult. I am only afraid of someone breaking in a little bit so I lock all the windows and doors and that helps for some reason. I often shower when someone is home. You are brave to shower when you have those struggles it takes courage. I am just lazy for some reason with simple stuff @Ooorgle

@Ooorgle it sounds like the white noise in the shower triggers you. Could you bring a speaker in there and listen to music?

My fiancée just recently bought a Bluetooth waterproof speaker for me, I haven’t set it up yet. I’m gonna make a shower playlist. That way I can time my showers out too, so I don’t wander and shower with purpose.

I don’t do horrible if I can keep focus, it’s when I wander off, and try to relax. Fiancée said she’s caught me speaking back to them before :flushed:

Good idea ninja.

Thank you. It’s just something I live with. Helps to write it out and share. Knowing I’m not alone with the struggles

Audiobooks can be good too, because they are actually talking to you.

I’m working on hat one right now. I took a break from reading because we got super duper busy for a bit.

I don’t care about myself. That’s the reason I shower so rarely now.
I have no girlfriend to care about my body odors. But, anyways, I don’t get dirty. I am on the couch all day.

I remember dear @zeno who had black skin because he never had shower. Where are you my friend?

Is that where you got the idea for my tagline ninja?

Need to create strict rules like shower everyday before sleep at night and then follow it as if no choice to skip it. Overtime it becomes a habit and easy to follow. This is how we can beat the negative symptoms so easily.
