Because people are people. And people treat each other badly, Itās human nature. there is also good in the world. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
The oldest tenet in the book is that bad things happen to good people AND bad people. And good things happen to good people AND bad people. It may not be fair but then again who said life ever has to be fair?
We are all at the mercy of someone else who has power over us. Whether itās bully, a boss, a president, your wife, your husband. And people like to have power over other people so thatās why the world is screwed up and always has been.

Why do animals have to eat each other?
One of the reasons for evil at least in Western Society is our reliance on a market-based driven economy such as in money and jobs that force to only receive what we truly need like food, clothing, health items though money only. In our society, we must work to eat. Work is not evils; it is our āsickā reliance on it. We need to be more like our āanimalā companions. They do not earn a living just to eat or even contact Spirit. Our economy needs to return to the āanimalsā and nature. This will help alleviate some of the evil. No matter what we do; all of evil can never be eliminated. There will always be evil. Just read mythology and fairy tales that come from ancient, primeval times.
