Why/how does marijuana cause sz (500% increased risk of developing the disease)?

My sz is 100% marijuana induced. I had space cake once and havent been the same ever since.

Why/how did mj trigger sz? what happened to me?

Certain drugs wreak havoc on our brains.
Mescaline triggered my schizophrenia.
They mess with our brain chemistry.

@Wave
I d love to have more detail. Is it that they wreak havoc with our neurons (pruning or ?) or our brain chemistry?

What precisely happens when drugs transform our brain? Do we have any idea? What brain region? What neurons or neurotransmitters?

Everybody is different,

I smoke everyday and have never had a negative side effect.

The science behind whether or not marijuana helps or hinders is foggy and full of opinions,

Its personal and depends on usage.

At least that’s what my doctor has told me, and it makes sense.

My mental illness is completely marijuana induced as well. I don’t think I would have developed it otherwise. There’s so much to the human physiology that we don’t know. It could be inflammation, chemical imbalances, physical changes happening in the brain, or other things. Hope they figure it out soon.

Search it online, a quick google search for “why does marijuana cause sz” will yeild several thousand results. Hold on, maybe I’ll post a good article if I can find one.

Brain chemistry: I think I read somewhere that cannabis alters communication patterns between neurons. Perhaps it can induce loosening of associations.

Explains how cannabis can be used to model negative, positive and cognitive symptoms.

Just know, scientists don’t know exactly but they have a hunch the main culprit is THC.

The science behind the understanding of the biological causes of mental disorders is still in its infancy.

I smoked marijuana on a recreational basis all my life starting at the age of seventeen. I smoked it up to the age of forty eight. And I never had good experiences. I always had bad acid like trips on marijuana. So, why I insisted on smoking it is my never ending guess. Probably to fit into the crowd. I’m fifty seven now. I believe my sza is due to a combination of genetics (my father had it), and smoking marijuana.

I’m shocked by the amount of people that believe their schizophrenia was caused/triggered by marijuana.

I’ve done some research and it appears that you can kind of believe what you want because science just hasn’t caught up to opinions yet.

Like I said before, my doctor says that its very individual so its almost impossible to draw conclusions.

I’ve smoked quite a bit. I don’t think marijuana was the cause, I just had it, I was always a little bit off, marijuana just magnified it. Also I’ve never had a lingering effect from marijuana, I smoke, a few hours later, it wears off, and back to normal…sz

I don’t think drugs can cause schizophrenia, because that kind of brain misdevelopment doesn’t just happen in 10 minutes.
I do think that people who already have the condition can have it worsened by drugs, but feel like the illness was triggered because the symptoms went from unnoticeable to very noticeable.

marijuanna use has increase tons over the years and schizophrenia levels among people have remained exactly the same…

Many of us might have been able to avoid sz if we hadn’t used cannabis, acutely or chronically.

If we get med at 1st phase sz can be avoided…
My insomnia gave me psychosis…

Drop it already. My question is how does mj trigger sz in those who are at risk. I dont care about normies being able to smoke all they want. The question is what happens to our brains.

It is possible that mj doesnt affect all sz in the same way. Sadly it did trigger my psychosis, i went from great to unable to function properly overnight. Normal to sz from one space cake. My question is how is that possible.

So if there is a drug that can make the symptoms go from unnoticeable to noticeable, i am goping they can find a drug to make them unnoticeable again.

Also if u know how thc makes the symptoms noticeable, please do share.

I also believe i was triggered by marijuana use. I wasn’t exactly a heavy smoker, but i did it enough to fit in in high school. When i got to college and continued to smoke, I believe it caused my prodromal phase of sz. But everyone is different and the affects may vary from person to person

So u are prodromal?
