People here seem nice and genuine, and will spend time talking and helping
Why is it that I cannot find people in my community like the people I found here?

Maybe move to a different country 
I think it gets harder to make friends when we get older, but I do have a couple. They are nice but sometimes they also give a stab. That’s how it is for me.

I think it’s because we truly understand. Very few people irl know what it’s like having a mental illness and are less understanding and compassionate.

My friends I had that were schizophrenic were as nice as people on here. Maybe people bond better over shared experiences.

I went to a mental health one before.
No one else had SZ, and I disclosed.
Once I told them, the guy who I had a cigarette break with wouldn’t talk to me anymore 
Stopped going in the end

Damn that sucks. Where I am at I am fortunate enough to have a community center that has a schizophrenia support group. The only problem with the one here is that they have restriction for the number of people who could attend due to covid.

There is a more general drop in thing at a local place here, but not sure there is a SZ group
They shut during Covid-19 too!
Problem is I am working now, and everything they do is during the week days - nothing at weekends
Only thing is a photography class at 7pm, but it seems like an expensive hobby
I like taking photos on my phone, but not enough of an enthusiast to buy a DSLR or whatever those fancy things are

I’ve also made friends before in language classes. You interact a lot and get to know each other.
Maybe that wouldn’t be possible anymore with sz.

I would love to learn a second language
But I do not think that’s for me.
Wasn’t very good at learning it in school
They taught French German and Spanish
My option was French, but the school reduced my courses because of my behaviour.
Ended up dropping French

I want to point out my comment about good people here is everyone as a collective. Not singling anyone out, as we’re all together in this.
If it wasn’t for this forum, I’d be totally screwed and would never have built the insight I have now.

I’ve met some good people at my mental health place. It’s for people with serious and persistent mental illness like schizophrenia and bipolar with psychotic features. Not sure how many if any of them are schizophrenic but the guys I go to groups with every week are good guys. I just have a hard time thinking of things to say because all I do is watch TV all day.
