why are we not doing it…
more money= more problems
I would have thought we’d be gifted psychiatric nurses…experience is everything…can you imagine trying to understand sz if ur not a schizophrenic urself
First you have to go through nursing school. Psychiatric nursing can be a tough gig.
Because I can barely function?
Peer support within an inpatient setting would be much more likely for us. But not many of those positions exist.
Maybe seeing someone else’s psychosis can be triggering?
i would hAVE thought @77nick77 and youself and many others would have made great psychiatric nurses…fill me in on why ur not considering ur wealth of experience
Nursing school + many sz aren’t functioning enough to work + many have no insight.
In some countries, schizophrenia medication counts as a mind-altering drugs, and people aren’t allowed to be responisble for the wellbeing of other humans while on mind-altering drugs
Thanks Karl. Actually it’s a job I would find very interesting but hesitate to do as I’m not very good with people and my husband needs me at home as he has epilepsy and I look after him. But yes it sounds like a good job…
Because I don’t want to!
I went to nursing school for a year…it was too difficult having to take care of other people on top of myself. I did okay on the practical things like giving shots and doing BPs, but patients unload a LOT of their problems on nurses. It was actually easier getting a Master’s degree where all I had to do was pass tests and write papers!
i would ahve thought you’d be very skilled at it…i sometimes wonder how u held a job down for the past 30 odd yrs…i have sz for 16 yrs and wouldnt in a million yrs be able to work
I just like working and I act and look fairly normal. My jobs aren’t really complicated and I’ve had lots of breaks and lots of help. There’s a lot more to it but those are the basics.
