Why are Opioids even legal if we have such a problem with them

I don’t remember this problem as a child, but yet medical marijuana is not legal. Don’t get it but then again I don’t know if there is a Substitute.

They cut back regulations and I heard pharma companies paid off doctors to hand them out like candy.

Also people have bad health. What else is new.

Fair question, but one that should be directed more towards the people who write the laws. Alcohol prohibition was tried between 1919-1933 and ultimately repealed with a constitutional amendment rescinding prohibition. Prohibitions against drugs appear sometimes to have very little to do with the actual danger of the drug, and more to do with public perceptions, politics and God knows what.

Because severe pain is unbearable.

Big Pharma is currently being sued for opiods for they used to not be considered bad. I am hopeful that medical marijuana will be used in those who use opiods…my friend just took it on her own iniative to give a strong medical marijuana med she discovered to fight her husbands’ painful dying from liver cancer…he never got any pain and died peacefully.

Because they are unfit and overweight and likely due to over working a manual labor job and/or lack of access to quality food.

Medical marijuana is legal in all 50 states of the U.S. And there has always been a “problem” of people overdoing opioids. But, opioids are the best thing we have to treat real pain so, it can’t be made illegal.

I’ve heard that it is legal in all 50 states, the CBD part of marijuana anyway. I could be wrong though.

I heard opioid abuse is 25% less in states where marijuana is readily available.

No we have people always trying to get enough signatures to take it to a vote. They can’t use oils pills nothing in our state. I’m sure it’s just a matter of time. But a lot of people are suffering needlessly. Think they just think it’s the gateway to full legalization so there holding back.

I know that cbd oil is legal in Oklahoma…I remember the governor passing the bill.

I’m prescribed oxycodone because not only do I have herniated discs in my lower back but also a condition where my spine narrows towards the bottom causing severe pain. I couldn’t function without opioids as nothing has come close to the relief they give. :sun_with_face:

Simply put because theres a high demand for them. I ask the opposite question for other substances. Why are things such as lsd and cannabis and mushrooms illegal. I wish i could walk into a store and buy a bag of shrooms. But that’ll never happen. Opiates are more popular then other drugs that are less dangerous.

I normally don’t mention health food any more because I generally don’t care any more but how many health food items have you seen in the past 20 years that don’t look like candy bars and milkshakes? Doesn’t that alone tell you something? Even many vitamins, and supplements are candy now.
