Who is coming off antipsychotics in the future?

I’ve been told I can probably reduce the dosage in the future once I’ve been stable for a certain amount of time, but the last time I came off an ap entirely, I had an episode that my pdoc doesn’t want to see repeated. Doesn’t mean I won’t still ask to try again though!

Definitely…. Exactly where I’m at now. I’ve reduced dosage twice recently against the doctors recommendation. Gone down from 10 mg Olanzapine to 5mg in the last two months.

It was a risk but, I’m feeling much better for it and wasn’t willing to wait six months.

How long do you have to wait and what dose are you on?

Glad you’re feeling better. For me, if I’ve been told how long I need to be stable before an attempt at reduction is made, I’ve forgotten. But I imagine it’ll be in the months range. I’ve had 3 episodes this year so far, so months would be a good stretch. I’m on 3mg of vraylar right now, just started that in April.

I’ve found new information each time I’ve asked and have appreciated every response.

I’ve found lots of people in the same position as me and I’m sure it’s helpful to them to.

We’re all at different stages of the journey …… Beyond this thanks for the advice you have given…. Your examples and old posts stopped me going off of medication cold turkey.

Yeah stress can play a big part.
I’m not on aps right now. I still don’t feel normal and I still have negative symptoms like lack motivation , avolition. I could still sleep all day if I let myself. So I just force myself to do stuff

How long have you been off of aps now? I managed five months. Hopefully will avoid stress and do better next time

I also have a lack of emotion, but can feel some joy.

I take them only when I have a bad episode. So I stopped in March and I took for 8 weeks in the winter till the episode was more under control

Don’t know if I could do that…. I was delusional for six weeks on 10mg Olanzapine and without insight.

Yeah It is of course more risky to do that. My pdoc said its higher risk of relapse.

I was like that on 80mg Latuda, I had negative symptoms but forced myself to work full time etc But now on 6mg Risperdal I cant even force myself, it doesnt work anymore lol

yeah understandable, even 2mg of risperidone slowed me down a bit.

Are you on it or on Geodon? What dose?

Have you had many episodes…… and do you keep insight during them?

Guess I should be thankful to be on 5mg Olanzapine at the moment. Couldn’t function on anything higher

For me then, it’s worth you asking if it has prevented this from happening, as going off cold turkey is not a good idea at all

Hello 2 years off meds here and still on going, was on 10mg zyprexa for many years then changed to abilify but had a psychotic reaction to it so I stopped my meds and the symptoms somehow died down. I am still psychotic with delusions and voices but I think “they” are trying to force me to get a job so they can bully and control my life… I’m also scared to take my meds in case they take my benefit money away and I end up homeless. I do not hear voices outside but I get some paranoia from the people around me. I think everyone has different voices …

Okay hopefully things get better for you
