It was recommended by someone close to my father to try Lions Mane for general brain health, cognition, ward of dementia.
Does anyone here use Lions Mane for cognitive benefits?
What else is it used for?
I know very little about it.

I liked the one from RealMushrooms on Amazon.
Thanks @anon4362788
Was it effective for you?
Very. I had high anxiety. Couldn’t be alone in stores. My first dose, we went to Walmart and I wandered off by myself to browse. I’d not done that in 20 years.
I use it because it helps me reduce the amount of APs I need by at least half and – this was a complete surprise – it helps with pain from nerve injuries I sustained in the past. I mean it helps to the point where I went from managing pain with Vicodin down to using acetominaphen. I have not noticed it working for cognition at all, but I guess it doesn’t make it worse.
The only brand I’ve found that packs a punch is Amyloban 3399 from Amazon. I buy anything else and I’m having to ramp up APs in about a month and the pain gets out of control in my neck, shoulder, and back.
Thanks again @anon4362788 and @shutterbug
My favorite lions mane is the kind that you find on old rotting oak logs in the woods
Sounds a bit dangerous
Not about to do this
What’s dangerous about it?
It’s not dangerous. There’s no toxic lookalikes for Lio s Mane. It also makes great mock “crab cakes”.
I take these… never have any problem except when I go nuts and take a bunch. It is very good for cognition and negatives.
It comes in three pack, roughly three-month supply. I buy a bunch and I put them in the freezer to store. I’m getting some more shipped. Ones in the pharmacy is too expensive.
@Wave be aware that lions mane lowers your blood sugar.
In addition to lowering blood sugars, lion’s mane extract may reduce diabetic nerve pain in the hands and feet. In mice with diabetic nerve damage, six weeks of daily lion’s mushroom extract significantly reduced pain, lowered blood sugar levels and even increased antioxidant levels
So as you’re taking Metformin, keep an eye on things.
Thanks @everhopeful but it would be for my father, not me
Thanks @Abise 15
