Why does the US post office think it’s quicker to get to Michigan from Indiana by going through North Dakota? If I go to Florida next week, do I stop in Kansas City on the way?

Same reason they make stuff one place, ship it across the ocean, and then ship it back. Money.

Its funny and all, but in all truthfulness, there are probably logistical reasons why they take what seem like indirect routes to an observer.
