What's your favourite OPERA or favourite opera fragment/aria?

It’s OK if you don’t like opera but happen to like that cool instrumental bit in the soundtrack, for instance, of Raging Bull. Opera queens and kings are particularly welcome though.

Here is something I rather like from Poulenc.

Love Nomi! I originally learned about him from David Bowie on a musical segment of “Saturday night live”

They used to share clothing and costume.

He’s amazing.

I do remember he preformed with David Bowie on SNL,

I didn’t know about the costumes,

But I believe it.

I love opera. My favorite is Le Nozze d’Figaro.

Was listening to The Barber of Seville yesterday.

Also I love Turandot.

Operas on vinyl are awesome.

Ha, I knew - and hoped-that someone would bring up klingon opera, or failing that opera in klingon. I have really high hopes of our planet joining one day the klingon empire.

All wonderful. What about your fellow country man John Adams?

Bowie’s costume in “ashes to ashes” was made and originally worn by nomi.

Two wonderfully weird dudes.

I’ve never seriously looked into him. Honestly have never heard of him much until you mentioned it.

What do you think of Chinese opera?

This is opera heaven, worth exploring the background of the complex metatheatrical play on display.

Giving Nixon in China a listen to now. Just started the overture.

I’ll let you know what I think of it. I’m sure I will like it.

I’ve loved opera since I was 15 years old and have been an avid fan of it all my life. And I have no particular favorite. I particularly enjoyed Madame Butterfly one year though.

Thanks for turning me on to Klaus Nomi @GoldenRex .

Gosh! I’ve heard opera in English before but there is something special about not knowing what is being said but on an emotional level you can understand what is going on even though you don’t speak the language.

Couldn’t get into John Adams. Thanks for the tip though.
