What You Need to Know About the New Autism Data Registry (and How to Stay Safe)

Don’t know if this will be deemed too political.

Thanks for sharing the video. I’ll be monitoring the thread for now to make sure it stays on track. Yes it’s politics. But the politics directly impacts everyone here. It’s a tricky judgment call to make, and we may change our approach over time to keep the community a safe place.

I’m very nervous about this. He claims he wants to find the root cause of autism and come up with a solution. We already know the root cause is genetics. There is only one way to “solve” the root cause. I also worry what this means for the schizophrenic community. This sets a scary precedent.

Heading to sleep now, so I’m gonna set a timer to close this and open it when I wake up. Another mod is also welcome to open it back up if they are around to monitor it.

Opening this back up for a few hours

I’m worried about applying for benefits.

If I essentially tell the government that I was diagnosed with autism, am I going to end up on this list?

They already know if it’s on your medical records. Might as well get some benefit out of it while you can.

I don’t think it is. I pay out-of-pocket for therapy and I paid out-of-pocket for my autism evaluation. I never shared any records with any of my other providers or insurance company.

I will still apply for benefits, but this is still alarming to me.

Maybe do like it says in the video and ask your out of pocket providers if they participate in information sharing? You have enough other diagnoses that you might be able to qualify even without the autism dx

Thanks @Ninjastar.

You’re right. I think I qualify regardless of the diagnosis.

I will ask about information sharing.

normally, I recommend being 100% honest with all doctors. But right now, I do worry about what will happen to long term benefits for those with autism. Last time this happened, they sorted the autistics who could work from the ones who couldn’t, and from there things got real bad for the ones who couldn’t.

I just don’t understand why people with autism would be on a national registry like sex offenders. They are not one in the same and many people with autism can work. Sometimes it’s just a matter of finding work that is suitable for them. Most people do, in fact, have to find work that is suitable for them.

Autism should be covered by HIPAA where the diagnosis is private, protected medical information.

They’re scraping social media for info, that is how they are turning away people with undesirable views at the border. If you’ve talked about it on social media you need to assume you’re in their database and searchable for it.

Worst case scenario: Aktion T4.

I hate sounding this fxxxing paranoid.

RFK, Jr is trying to prove his conclusion that vaccines cause autism. Once they know who has autism, they will then look at their vaccination records.

It’s true that over the last 50 years there’s been an increase in the number of vaccinations school children receive and an increase in children diagnosed with autism, but there’s no evidence that vaccines cause autism. It’s just a positive correlation. Many things correlate. For example, US consumption of ice cream and the US murder rate per capita have a strong positive correlation, but that doesn’t mean ice cream consumption causes murder.

I don’t think that there’s more children with autism now than there was 50 years ago. That said, I do think there’s been an increase in the number of children diagnosed with autism, but a plausible explanation for the increase is due to broadened diagnostic criteria, improved screening methods, and increased awareness and acceptance of autism.

I think these videos do a good job of explaining the autism/vaccine myth for those who are interested. They were shared by my professor when I took a college course on autism last semester.

He also specifically said the registry would “TRACK” individuals with autism. That is some X-Men level shxx right there.

Including smartwatch data which would provide real time location

I think the public outcry is working
