I do data entry and light phone work. I take a lot of criticism for my poor phone skills. Some people say I am high functioning because I work 32 hours a week. (Right now I am off for a while for disability due to a relapse.)

I’ve been a janitor, a park ranger, I unloaded trucks for 4 years. But some people I’ve seen on here manage to get prestigious jobs.

That’s the type of job i think is good. Something not too demanding that avolition would hinder one from. I tried working at old navy and it was hell, cuz it was tedious and demanding and boring. Just something that u dont have to move ur body for nor exert hard mental effort.

I do well with process work. Simple physical work where my mind can wander and just operate on autopilot. Stuff like driving forklifts and order picking or warehousing usually pays well. It’s hard labour but that isn’t a bad thing. I always had some success with using my hands or doing physical work.

@daydreamer…what qualifications do you need to b e a support worker

park ranger sounds like a good job

It had it’s good points and bad points. Bad points:cleaning restrooms. Good points: driving around by myself in the company truck in nice parks on nice sunny days.

Why did u stop the park thing? I see the parks ppl and it seems like hard work. But emptying trashcans for ppl is so dry, plus theres the issue of pride.

In America if a person hasen’t worked for at least 5 years they wont qualify for disability benefits. Being in that category I’d really like to find something that I could do.

Unfortunately I have strong negative symptoms so it seems unlikely.

I used to do readings for $$$

Job #1 recovering from schizophrenia. I hate it but it’s true. Every job eventually drives me nuts. Even now I’m a paperboy and sometimes it sucka.

That’s not true, i havent worked apart from 1 feeble attempt in over five years and get disability.

My friend gave me a job baking and setting up her cafe before customers come in.

I can’t remember why i quit that job. i worked there almost two years starting when I was forty years old… There were many, many aspects and duties and training involved. And yes, it could get physically hard.

In parks, you can have park rangers who kind of supervise the park and enforce the rules (no alcohol in the park, no dogs off of leashes, no extra tables allowed from outside the park) and then you have park maintenance workers who cut the grass, prune trees, plant stuff etc.) Those are two separate jobs, even though the duties overlap each other depending on the park.

At one park my duty was not only to patrol an entire huge park (maybe two-four acres) in my truck but I also had to use a gas powered “weed eater” to cut down tall grass and weeds along a 150 foot long fence. Also, lifting heavy bags of debris.

The parks I worked in were not large state parks by a long shot. They were sometimes neighborhood parks, or parks on the edge of town. So I wasn’t chasing bears away from campers in Yellowstone, or measuring the flow rate of Bridalveil Falls in Yosemite, lol. I sometimes got stationed in small parks where I could sit in my office in one end of the park paperwork and killing time and then and walk out side and see the entire park, maybe two hundred yards in length.

But yeah, when I started I had no experience and I was very surprised at what the job entailed. I didn’t think or realize that cleaning stuff would be part of my duties.

But hey, I did it. I did what they asked me to do and I wore my uniform and my hat and I talked to the park regulars and I got to work outside which I really like and I got to see wildlife and help people out.

The only things I’ve ever done were housecleaning, restaurant work, nursing home kitchen, telemarketing and nursing. I’ve had lots of different jobs in these fields. I realize they are really crappy jobs, but, when you are a minority, that’s usually all you can get. Especially back in the 80’s and 90’s.

Manual labor is something I’ve always sucked at. So that is out of the question for me. Luckily I was able to work for almost 7 years before my sz, as a software developer, so that is a skill I have honed to a decent extent. Now that my negatives have improved I have resumed studying. I will try looking for a freelance job or try my hand as an independent game developer…

The disability benefits in my country are so insignificant it makes me puke. They would only cover my monthly cigarette quota… and I don’t even smoke that much. So I am bound to strive for recovery and be able to earn my living before my parents pass away.
Wish me luck!! Cause I’ll need it…
