What were misdiagnosed with before sz/sza?

I have had a lot of things thrown around… dysthymia, major depression w psychosis, BPD, avoidant personality, OCD, adjustment disorder , dissociative disorder, PTSD (accurate), autism (accurate), and then finally sza.
Took 6 years of therapy to get here, but then again I had never had a full blown psychotic episode until this year.

Major depression, recurrent and severe. Bipolar. Borderline personality disorder.

OCD was my original, followed by depression, then a seizure disorder (I never tested positive, but my doc thought they might have just missed it), then psychosis NOS, then undifferentiated schizophrenia.

Major depression but it wasn’t a misdiagnosis. It was because my symptoms hadn’t presented with positives at the time. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and these things do change as do your symptoms.

I could cry and then laugh within five mins of each other so they said I was schizoaffective at first but my second pdoc I had after I was stable saw that I really just had a belief system that caused my laughing and crying fits. he read my book…and then gave the diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenic.

Adjustment disorder with depressed mood and then delusional disorder. Finally ended up with chronic paranoid schizophrenia. Still have that to this day but my shrink retired and I get a new one March 13. Will have to see what he says.

I’m here because I was diagnosed with undifferentiated schizophrenia , then sza and finally bipolar.

I was first diagnosed with bipolar for years, then my last psychiatrist and therapist diagnosed me with schizoaffective disorder after first diagnosing me with bipolar.

Now my current psychiatrist is uncertain.

The only thing she’s sure of is that I suffer with OCD and mood symptoms.

OCD, because of intrusive thoughts

Borderline personality disorder, but then, I never really told them what I was thinking, like that my landlord was secretly a spy and was trying to poison me with carbon monoxide. If you’re reading, landlord, then I’m sorry!

I also did not tell the first doctor I saw what I was thinking. I just told him about the anxiety so I think they got stuck to that thinking for a while.

Yeah I think a large part of some of my misdiagnoses was I didn’t really explain my thought process so they just had behaviors to go off of and my mood issues. And psychiatrists jumped on the bpd wagon after one session.

I was misdiagnosed with BPD and clinical depression for years - where for a long time i felt i wasnt taken seriously and got fobbed off for a long time by mh services. And was forever getting nicked for acting out when psychotic - but the bstards never picked up on it.

It took a meltdown and the hospital and police to finally convince them for a re-assessment. Its been three years now being diagnosed as Sz - and now im taken seriously and get the proper drugs i need. They said i was probably Sz for years - was just never picked up on. Now ive got a proper “label” - its enabled me to research my own recovery and do something about it. And i havent been in trouble with the law since.

Bipolar 2. I wasn’t hallucinating, had no delusions, and no negative symptoms. By the time I was reevaluated I had all three, which is when my diagnosis was changed to schizoaffective disorder.

Schizoaffective. Because I had mood swings of prodromal phase. Now I don’t have mood swings and I am diagnosed with undifferentiated schizophrenia
