It depends on your symptoms, some schizophrenics have more physical energy, some are less paranoid, some have less cognitive symptoms and so on.

I volunteered where I previously worked with people who have intellectual disabilities and i couldn’t do it. It was just way overwhelming. I went home and shook for two days because of the anxiety.

I personally would volunteer working with animals somehow, in a shelter or whatever. I’d much rather hangout with animals vs have to talk to people all day. Plus it’s practically therapy for me seeing all those cute critters.

Voluntary? I guess a library or botanical gardens. I tried volunteering at a library and I quit because of symptoms.

I volunteer worked at riding for disabled and I felt paranoia against staff and also the disabled people.

I thought they were building s wedding dress for s girl with the arena and were stealing from me and all of them against me.

I volunteer worked for meals on wheels a while and that went better .

But it depends on the work tasks and the people.

I volunteer worked in a aged care kitchen and that went pretty good till I thought I had to get out of my apartment I was living in because my family that let me live there was against me I thought I think.

I slept in my car for three weeks or more and put my things in storage shed.

I was taken to hospital not long after that but ended up going back to the apartment.

If my bf and I break up I will have no where to go .

I volunteer doing odd jobs that are interesting like writing up video game reports and updating a website. It is mentally stimulating and I highly recommend it!

LOL @anon62973308 these might be interesting for those whose cognition is relatively well preserved.
I don’t believe these things are workable for people who have severe cognitive symptoms.
In any case if you can handle that, god has probably blessed you with mild cognitive symptoms.

Lol, I think 90% of schizophrenics who want a volunteer job want to work with animals (exaggeration?)
I worked at a wildlife rescue place for two months. I hated it!!! It was mostly feeding birds and it drove me crazy. Those damn birds just would not co-operate and they either wouldn’t let me put the food in their beaks or they stole food from the other birds or tried to escape their cages.

I do two days or so at my cricket club. It’s an hour away by car in the city. I usually do all the mowing with the push mower and the ride on. I also know how to bring up a turf cricket pitch if the old man is away. It’s great. You work at your own pace…ie I can take breaks when I want etc. I can have a soft drink or a beer if I’m stressed so it’s all cool and it keeps me active. I also help out the sporting club which is good…they need volunteers.

Visiting the sick or confined elderly. That’s what I do. And I enjoy it very much. I also call people up and ask them if they still belong to our volunteer organization, hoping that they still do. I also help lead a _____ group at my assisted living center. I also maintain a web site and ____ on a social media site for my volunteer organization.

sometimes I do online research studies. once in awhile they offer to pay you but its more of a lottery. I haven’t tried in person research studies though, dunno if I should. some of them could pressure you depending on your condition, like for me sometimes they time you so I feel a little pressure for my lack of thinking…
