What medication is as good as risperidone for voices?

I want to know what my options are if I have to switch medications. I’ve also heard medications can stop working. I know that different medications affect everyone differently, but there is probably some general qualities for each med. Any input is appreciated.

I am currently on 4MG of risperidone, and I’m wondering if anyone can suggest an alternative for treating voices. Thanks.

I’m on Invega, that is a perfected version of risperidone, and I don’t hear voices.

I’ve tried Abilify, Risperidone and Latuda and only Risperidone significantly reduced/eliminated my symptoms. Latuda did an ok job (but gave nasty akesthesia and suicidal thinking) and Abilify did absolutely nothing.

I was initially interested in Invega but it affects prolactin doesn’t it? I had to be taken off risperidone because my prolactin got too high on it

It does, and it’s actually the reason I’m considering coming off of it.

It depends on your unique neurotransmission, whichever medication is effective for one person might be ineffective for someone else.

I’m on 4 mg of risperidone and it works pretty well for me. If you don’t mind the side effects

For example Seroquel seems to work for me even though it tends to not work for many people, its mostly trial and error at the end of the day.

Look at this comparison of medications and decide which antipsychotic has the most similarity to risperidone

How do you know your prolactin is too high on invega? Is it just breasts growing or did you take a blood test for that. I’m wondering about mine but going to the doctor can be expensive.

I do bloodtests every six months, I had galactorrhea and my period was gone. Once I lowered the dose those issues are gone, but still very sore breasts and I read some stuff about elevated prolactin on the long run and I don’t like my odds. I would prefer a med without prolactin issues, my pdoc knows about this though, so I don’t know where he stands. I think he thinks if there are no side effects it’s alright, but the elevated prolactin is still there anyway, so I’m torn

Thanks for the charts. They are very helpful.

Do you think other meds will be as effective? Is this a factor in your decision or do you think you may as well try and see?

I’m worried about symptoms coming back, but I have a good team of pdoc, therapist and nurses on my back, and if things go wrong I can always go back on Invega and just deal with the prolactin issue…

Good luck, hope it works for you

Thank you :sunny:

Invega works well for me. VERY well. Ask your dr about it. It’s also easier b/c you can take it once a day.
