What laptop is worth it?

I’ve been thinking of a Macbook Pro

MacBook Pros are good. I wish I had one.

Apple laptops last forever. I have a MacBook Pro from 2013 and it still runs great. Apples are not the best for gaming though.

I’m not into gaming much

The new ones are built to break fast

That’s pretty impressive!

I recently got a MacBook Air M1 last year after having a Pro since 2010– that thing was still kicking around until the latest updates .

@Crystal-Cotton What will you be using your new laptop for? If you’re going to be editing stuff like video or music then a Pro is your best bet. An Air is cool because it’s less heavy and great for casual use and some intermediate applications.

For studying and work (not working yet but maybe later)

Cool.

Just make sure you grab a laptop with appropriate storage space if you wanna keep files directly on it.

There’s always the Cloud or an external hard drive if you run out, though.

Not the most savvy computer person here, but from my experience, I’ve always found it better to play it safe and go bigger in terms of storage.

Word and Excel docs aren’t that big so you’ll have more leeway.

If you’re gonna be storing a ton of music and video then defos go bigger.

For example: mine came with 512GB, so that could defos get me through school and work with some room left for video and audio if I wanted.

I suggest alineware ? But its heavy…

Or by a normal laptop and high end desktop or workstation…

I think I’ll get the 512gb too.

If I wasn’t much into gaming I’d definitely get a MacBook and not a PC, although they can be a bit pricey. I would get a PC if I didn’t have the budget for a MacBook though. I have a gaming PC and a MacBook Air (M1). The current MacBooks I believe use the M2 chip which is more powerful than the M1.

Yes and no. Apple intentionally obsoletes them after about five years. You can no longer update the OS and subsequently can’t install new apps because they need the newer OSes. I have a ten year old iMac I’m running Linux on because Apple stopped software support. It still works just fine other than the crap Apple mouse died years back.

Macs are okay. I have a 2017 Air. It runs really well and has no real physical issues like faulty parts. That said I find it’s very limited. It was great for when I was in school and using it for research and paper writing but now I want to get into gaming and digital art but it can’t handle those types of programs. Which most windows computers in the Mac price range can easily do.

If I could go back I’d get a windows computer. If you’re just going to be surfing the web, writing papers, or streaming. Basic stuff like that id say a Mac will do that for you but you’ll pay much more for it than a windows that can do the same.

Another thing to keep in mind is cost of repairs. Generally you’re going to pay a lot more for an Apple repair than you are for a windows repair. Unless you’re very handy with computers, you’ll need the Apple Store to fix it which can be a pain.

As you can see, I’m not a big fan of macs and that’s coming from someone with an Apple ecosystem. iPhone, Apple watch, MacBook. Mac is the one part of the ecosystem I don’t like.

I have an windows laptop already

The M2 air is very good now they have redesigned it

The 13 inch MacBook Pro is a piece of junk.

By time you make a M2 Air powerful enough to last longer, you may as well get a 14 inch MacBook Pro

There’s no 2022 edition of the 14” Macbook pro

Doesn’t matter

It’s a better machine than a spec’d up air

Depends what you want it for
