What is your pet peeve about English spelling?

Mine is '“island”. I always want to call it is land.

The word “restaurant”.

I always spell it wrong like the first three times.

No matter how many times I see it or spell it,

Just doesn’t stick.

Did you know that you aren’t supposed to say you’re laying down but rather that you are lying down.

Teaming/teeming, wreak/reek etc.

These are called homophones (same pronunciation, different spellings).

Actually most of the time I get them right, but I still feel insecure about writing such words.

desert and dessert are phonetically incorrect. Desert (sand land) should have the double s while the single s should belong to the food.

Nobody but me paid attention to lose/loose and there/their/they’re and its/it’s everyone else was daydreaming about hot wheels and super soakers I guess.

Knife, Psyche related words, it doesn’t make sense. There is a silent letter why.
