I was just noticing I had to try several times to get “occasion” and “occasionally” right.
Can’t seem to remember if there are two s’s, two c’s or both.
Until like a year ago, i used to use “use to” where “used to” was right as well. Like “I use to do this” vs " I used to do this".
I had to move from English spelling to American spelling and seriously for a job in the bookstore. Now 20 years later I’m still a mess. I do a combination of both on these boards and often I’ll review and go back. Honestly it’s a big bugbear for me and as a mod I’d like to be precise but I’m anything but. My mind is too mush to split between the two and I just accept it.
Well, because I’m not a native speaker, I may spell wrong without noticing.
I have noticed I struggle when our own word is very close to yours, and yet not the same. In Dutch we say vaccin. You vaccine. I often accidently use our Dutch spelling. I have been portrayed as an idiot for it by Americans.
Someone asked if I was Brittish, because I used coeliac rather than celiac. I just accidently mixed in a bit of my own language (we use coeliakie).
I don’t know much about English versus American spelling. I don’t even know what I use. I only know the English put in extra letters (e.g. colour versus color). I prefer the English form (sorry).
