What is my problem?

When they tell me i have schizophrenia, I think i have bipolar.
When they agree and tell me I Have a mood disorder, i think i have schizophrenia,
When they tell me i have schizoaffective, i am convinced i have schizophrenia.

I’m having a hard time trusting the opinions of professionals.

I guess i just feel i don’t fit in anywhere. Most people with bipolar have extreme moods, which I can’t identify with. Most people with schizophrenia have constant symptoms which I can’t identify with either.

Your medicated. Most of your symptoms are managed.

If for some reason your meds stop working. You will have symptoms and fit in just fine.

But you fit in just fine now as you are.

I wouldn’t worry too much about the exact diagnosis. Psychiatry isn’t an exact science and your diagnosis would in any case depend on which classification that is used DSM, ICD,…

@anon25873142 can you tell if you have psychosis outside of a mood episode? And how long your mood episodes last?

Because with sza you get psychosis out of mood episodes even when you feel normal, plus significant mood episodes when you meet criteria for them (2 weeks or more depression and a week or more in mania and 4 days or more in hypomania)

And if you have psychosis but do not meet mood criteria you have sz

And if you have psychosis only in mood episodes you have bipolar

I cannot tell @Hadeda I don’t remember much of my time in hospital but I remember after two weeks of mood and psychotic symptoms I had to go back on antipsychotic medication.

“[You] cannot tell.” And that is exactly why you have to trust in and believe what your (latest) pdoc tells you when it comes to your diagnosis @Daisy79.

Does it matter? Your treatment is the same. So it could be called googly eye disorder for all it matters.

Juat focus on doing well

I feel you have the same condition as me… Psychosis NOS.

But wat do you feel about that possibility?

I have had relapses several times and longest I was hearing voices and or delusional for was a year.

Still they don’t dx me with sz because my current dose of abilify is 2.5mg.

Yea I think ur right the dx can change sometimes

I’m supposed to be taking a mood stabalizer with my antipsychotic for mania, but it seems like the 3 mg risperidone itself takes care of it.

They usually give the Psychosis NOS when they themselves are not sure if i am not mistaken.

They say mines controlled with my Abiify so have not given me a mood stabiliser. Antipsychotics sometimes work as mood stabilisers.

Sorry, I don’t understand what you mean

When the psychiatrists aren’t sure of correct dx sometimes they use psychosis nos.

Oh OK I guess I am an unknown case. Pretty cool.

Yeah i’ve read that, it also seems people with sza/bipolar take lots of pills a day. Guess we are lucky?

You’re wasting a lot of energy worrying about the nature of the illness instead of putting that energy into dealing with and moving beyond the illness. Get bizzy with a hobby and leave the doctor stuff to the doctors.

I’m kind of in the same boat as you @anon25873142
Although now my current psychiatrist is certain that I have bipolar disorder.
I trust her
