I cant remember which is axis 1 and which is axis 2, but one refers to a classification of disorders that respond to medical treatment, such as depression, bipolar, schizophrenia, etc. The other axis is for personality disorders, which are thought to be untreatable and lifelong.
Therefore it is possible to have, for example, Schizophrenia and Borderline Personality Disorder because they lie on different axes.
There were 5 axis. I think the DSM5 did away with them.
I have schizoaffective and borderline
Axis 1 is mental disorders and Axis 2 is personality disorders
