ijm confused…are they the same thing
I have never heard of the term psychosis spectrum, but since it doesn’t use the term schizophrenia it’s likely seperate thing because you with psychosis you can have different diagnosis like brief psychosis , schizophrenia , bipolar, drug induced etc
Schizophreniaspectrum is a diagnosis based on DSM 5. It assumes that it is a chronic disease.
Psychosisspectrum assumes that people can have a psychotic susceptibility. It’s similar but it’s a different way of looking at it which is more recovery focused:
i would have thought that there is only a psychosis spectrum…and schizpohrenia would be on that spectrum which would include all psychotic disorders including brief psychotic episode, schizoaffective, schizpohreniform, , schizophrenia, delusional disorder, schizotypal PD, paranoid PD, and in some cases schizoid PD and also drug induced psychosis and major depression induced psychosis and bipolar induced psychosis…
im sorry if im bamboozling you with information here but a google search is very unclear in what it is telling me…
im confused…i thought there was just a psychosis spectrum…and no schizophrenia spectrum…schizophrenia is the most severe of all psychotic disorders and is on a psychosis spectrum…
so if there is a schizophrenia spectrum how does it differ from a psychosis spectrum
i apologise if im confusing here but im just trying to educate myslef
Schizophreniqspectrum or psychosisspectrum are 2 different models. The first is DSM 5. The second isn’t. the second questions whether schizophrenia is a real disease or rather a convention amongst psychiatrists.
You have psychiatrists who prefer to use DSM and those who don’t. For example, Here in Belgium the high health council recommends the use of the general typology
Schizophreniaspectrum and psychosisspectrum both try to explain the same thing, but it’s a different way of looking at things.
I hope this helps.
