What is a photo?

Photos never captured the true colors of reality.
I’ve seen old photos from a Kodak of myself. I remember photos as a picture and moment in time. Now i look at them and see how blurry and the colors were tinted. And each decade, the photos look different. And today, phones capture the moment, but never can replace the real memory of actually seeing or being somewhere, something, someone, or the mirror.

I don’t trust photos.

I can look at a photo of food I have cooked and the smell and taste come back to me. I can look at a photo I took on a forest trail and suddenly I’m feeling the breeze and hearing the birds chirp again. A photo is a doorway into revisiting a cherished memory. It doesn’t matter what colour the door is painted, just that it is there and waiting for me to open it.

I still like photos. I wish I had more than the handful of photos I have from growing up.
