What happens when you quit meds?

First of all I´m not intending to quit meds without my pdoc approval…

I read somewhere that quitting meds cold turkey is terribly dangerous. I think it was on a news article on this forum, not too long ago.

I´m just curious on what effect does it cause? Do you get psychotic?

I can’t go more than a few days without taking them. Once the withdrawal kicks in I usually give in and take it.

Simple. I will end up in a secure unit, or the local prison. :no_mouth:

Thats why im strictly med compliant.

Been there done that. No thank you anymore. x

There might be a honeymoon period where you feel better for a while. But then the disease comes back. For me this happens within a month with Abilify.

I was off mine for a year, but not just psych meds. I take blood thinners, thyroid meds, blood pressure meds, etc etc. I just stopped one day. I never noticed side effects, but I was very, very depressed and likely wouldn’t have noticed them unless they got to the point of seizures and stuff. It took a year, but yeah, hospital here, too.

Not a good idea for anyone on Ap’s. Sweating, massive headaches, suicidal thoughts and voices, and complete relapse. Hospital hear i come!!!

Aren’t those horrible, I couldn’t even look around the room without feeling electric sensations in my eyes and all over my body.

I actually didn’t get them this past time that I dropped meds, or maybe I didn’t notice them.

I got them when taken off a med by a doctor. It was horrible!!! I didn’t know what was causing it but was worried it was my back or neck causing nerve issues again. That stuff is just… yikes.

My doctor switched APs on me to Vraylar and I almost quit Risperdal cold turkey
I ended up in the psych ward in a locked unit twice.

I stopped meds abruptly in 2016. I got smacked with all the withdrawal symptoms plus the SZ symptoms. Tried to kilI myself thinking I would drop into a past life and save the universe. Ended up in a lockdown facility. 0/10 would not recommend.

Every time I quit taking my meds I ended up right back in the psych ward. Not worth it in my opinion.

Might try again in a couple of years to come off, but not all the time/

I’ve been reading a forum for tapering off meds. It really makes psychiatry look like nothing more than a scam and the people in it sacrificial lambs.

Since they took me off my original meds of 5 years use. Tried multiple new meds nothing has worked, been in and out the er, had the cops called, etc.

Going through stuff now that just doesn’t even make sense and only thing I can attribute it to is withdrawal from the original ones I was on.

I do still have a strong urge to go back on them and am trying but I keep running into roadblocks. Very confused about the whole situation. When you end up at the er and they send you home with nothing it really makes you wonder what is going on

If your ERs are like ours, our health system was crashed by the pandemic (it was already overtaxed before) and the ER staff are beyond burned out. They’re not functioning well and as they are now running beyond capacity because of chronic short-staffing, it means that anything that is not life or death gets sent back home for someone else to deal with. The fact that there may be no one else to deal with the issue isn’t their problem so far as they’re concerned.

Friggin’ mess all around.

Couldn’t tell you. I have never quit since I have been on them consistently years ago. I have reduced dosage though. My experience is that symptoms begin to creep in. Paranoia in particular on reduced meds. It’s all about finding the right balance that you can live with , IMO.
