What does blocking dopamine mean?

Can someone explain:

What is it?
What differenciates it from normal population?
Side effects of just blocking dopamine?

Thanks!

APs block d2 dopamine receptors. Its known that high dopamine in the dorsal striatum in the brain causes sz. Blocking these receptors can make negative and cognitive symptoms worse.

Okay, thanks @anon67051439

You said in another post that they block around 70-80% of dopamine.

Is this a lot compared to normal population?
What are the common negative/cognitive symptons for you

I ■■■■■■ up my first abilify 10 taking coke, mdma and speed. Now my doctor doesn’t want to try to reduce it.

yes its a lot, weed does make sz worse. if you want to try off meds I would ask your Dr. Did you ever try off meds before without getting psychotic?

Abilify is not so bad, its a partial agonist so it doesn’t block as much dopamine as other APs like risperidone

No. The only chance and I ■■■■■■ it up. I have a very good friend. We usually meet at cannabis coffee couple times a week. He just comes to town to buy some hash, so we meet. It will be hard for me to leave weed because of socialization.

You can socialize with them, just don’t use weed. If you can’t just find new friends that don’t use weed.

I’m really low on mood and energy all day long. My fitness goals are too difficult to bare in my current state. My sex drive fluctuates from 2 weeks good 2 months bad. My cognition skills are through the floor, I cannot do any mentally challenging activity.

I guess a lot of people here feel the same. But I don’t see the point of continuing like this.

Tbh that’s an accurate depiction of how I feel…

I’m feeling under the weather this morning. It’s more like I was in the club, but the bouncer tossed me out without bothering to open the door first. Ow.

Honestly stopping the meds might not help much, i think most of the negative and cognitive symptoms are from the illness itself and not the meds. When I stopped the meds for 2yrs my negatives improved a bit but thats all, I was no way near my presz functional lvl.

Id tell your doctor this. There are a lot of meds out there. A lot of times people are happy just to get the relief meds can bring. I can’t say much cause I was on invega for 14 years. I got off it a lot and wanted to go med free route for a long time. A lot of people feel this way. My psychosis was too much though. I’m on perphenazine and don’t hear voices anymore and the side effects are hardly noticeable. I was there though. I got lucky with this med.
