I’m having an issue. In the morning, I am groggy and dead feeling. I have fatigue from my autoimmune disease and fibromyalgia.
However, my day goes much better when I begin working in the morning and I like working.
The problem is, I have to drink a lot of coffee to wind myself up. The problem with that is, and my psychiatrist backed me up when I told her my findings, is that the caffeine gets my positive symptoms going.
I can still function well, but I think things would be smoother for me mentally if I didn’t use caffeine.
Do any of you have a caffeine substitute that gives you energy?
One caffeine substitute I found that helps is a supplement called Theacrine; it’s found in green tea and you can buy it off of Amazon. I can send the link if you’d like.
Also, B12’s are important for energy. As is being hydrated and getting enough, but not too much, sleep.
i dont know of many natural stimulants besided coffee but id say if coffee (especially with sugar) winds you up too much, that perhaps tea would be a better option for you. it has less caffience per cup and so instead of having one big coffee you could have 2-3 teas and it would more gradually get you going. Best of luck hope you find something that works
Thanks my family has always been a big proponent of tea haha my grand father used to tell me stories about how hed go out into the woods and collect tea leaves
if you do try it my advice would be to treat yourself to the high quality kind of tea… the cheap stuff just doesnt compare… like i used to collect mint leaves right out of the ground and have them… theyre just totally different from cheap storebought teas… if you do buy id say pay a little extra and your tummy will thank you
There are many caffeine-free and low-caffeine alternatives to coffee that can give you an energy boost, including tea, herbal drinks, and water.
Caffeine-free alternatives
Chicory coffee
A caffeine-free drink made from chicory root that has an earthy taste. Chicory root is high in inulin, a prebiotic fiber that can help with gut health.

A caffeine-free tea that originated in South Africa.
Asian ginseng
A caffeine-free herb that has been used in Asia to enhance energy levels and mental clarity.
Low-caffeine alternatives
Matcha
A caffeinated tea that contains about one-fifth of the caffeine of a standard cup of coffee.
Green tea
Contains less caffeine than coffee, and some studies suggest that it can create a more balanced energy boost.
Kombucha
A naturally carbonated drink with less caffeine than tea, and it’s a lower-sugar alternative to soda.
Other alternatives
Water
Can immediately make you feel more alert and alive.
Turmeric latte
A vibrant yellow drink made from turmeric, milk, and spices like ginger, cinnamon, and black pepper.
I don’t know if this was suggested but I would try yoga, a light walk and or meditation. Sometimes it can be energizing to do some form of relaxing, low energy and calm exercises in the morning to get yourself going.
Exercise and good diet for energy in general, but I don’t think I know of any replacements for energy to wake you up in the morning. Except cold showers. But that takes a lot of will power and is very uncomfortable at least in the beginning.
Honestly, the thing I use for energy is a good sleep schedule. I get so much energy from just having restful sleep. When I got my restless leg syndrome medication…BAM! Sleep felt like it had gotten an upgrade.
You don’t need caffeine on a daily basis, and in fact it’s worse doing that, for your energy, than it is to just sleep correctly.
The miraculous thing is, once you quit caffeine, you can take it like a medication…and suddenly caffeine is a miraculous drug that makes you super resilient to fatigue.
Yep, it’s tolerance build up that makes you need energy drinks over typical forms of caffeine…so you need like a month break off of taking it. Give yourself a good sleep schedule and keep it. You won’t need caffeine regularly…and when the odd urgent need for it arises it can actually do the job it’s intended to do.
I need help with my caffeine addiction. I take mio energy squirt bottles and pre-workouts on a regular basis everyday two times a day mostly. But I’m on so much antipsychotic medicine that I can sleep just fine even if I have north of 500mg of caffeine. But still, I’ve tried coming off of it, and it’s like a withdrawal worse than my short lived Xanax addiction.
I’m addicted to energy drinks specifically the low-carb monster drinks. I think it has to do with schizophrenia although one psychologist said it’s due to depression. I know they are not healthy and they are expensive. I wonder if some of the ingredients are making me worse off, but don’t really know.
