“Solipsists believe in an extreme form of skepticism about the external world: namely, that anything ‘external’ doesn’t exist. Everything is an aspect of their own mind.”
For me it’s the most creepy theory ever.
I remember during psychosis I thought (sometimes) that I am the only one which actually exist.
So solipsism made this even worse for me…
Till this day I remind myself, that everyone else also exist. even though it sounds funny… but this theory is hell
My sister and I discuss this sort of thing every now and then. It’s very interesting to have someone to talk about this stuff with. We go through existential beliefs as well as philosophies/ specific philosophers. I’m more of a Kong Qiu type, while she prefers Lao Tzu. I like Lao Tzu, too, don’t get me wrong.
In college, a teacher had us go through different methods of viewing the world, including solipsism. I don’t know much more about it that the first two lines you posted. It reminds me of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s Young Goodman Brown in that the main character is kind of uncertain whether anything actually happened outside of his own thoughts.
I would call it crazy and scary… self centered is not the right word
It’s believing that your head created the whole world, and when you die it dies too. When I read further this theory it made me afraid, but not selfish of feeling good about myself.
But I appreciate your opinion. In fact my father said the same thing, that this theory is narcissistic:D
Still my biggest fear is to be alone in this universe
I’m not one of these people who would dehumanise another by labelling them with any disorder. I believe these words are only for use by professionals, in my view a ‘narcissist’ does not exist, only someone with tendancys. Its always good to explore yourself and ask questions
I’ve been into spirituality since my psychosis, i recognise that it takes some narcissisms also to believe that I am being looked after and i’m not alone. Sometimes we build things in our mind for comfort. Everything is just a human response to our experience
I believe there is an objective world out there apart from yourself, and it will hurt you if you don’t follow the basic rules set down in an objective world, like - don’t grab glowing red hot metal, don’t step on poisonous snakes, don’t drive your car into a tree, don’t physically assault a policeman - you could go on forever. I suppose that with a large amount of verbal gymnastics you could make a case for solipsism, but it wouldn’t be worth the effort.
My English is no that skilled, but I could also mention numerous of reasons why solipsism probably is not the right theory on how to explain what is what we experience.
Only thing I could mention - world would exist without us for 100%
