What do you think about abilify?

is it good drug? What do you think about it?does abilify make you slow and stupid/ poor concentration and motivation?

Worked a lot better than Geodon for me I think but made me gain 80 pounds and eventually made me effectively blind for a few years until it got changed for Latuda due to movement disorder making my eyes involuntarily close. Though my experience with it isnā€™t going to be anything like anyone elseā€™s but you asked.

I tried it, but it made me very dizzy so I had to change to Risperdal. Everyone is different though. Other peopleā€™s symptoms shouldnā€™t discourage you from using it.

Itā€™s a lot less inebriating than other antipsychotics, and itā€™s more effective than risperidone.

Do you think is it posssible to work as computer programmer on abilify?

Yeah definitely. I do lots of intellectually challenging work and Iā€™m doing fine.

I think itā€™s groovy.

I actually got an increase in physical strength from Abilify. Thatā€™s rare for an AP. It didnā€™t make me gain weight. It got me a little too hyped up. I had to quit taking it.

It didnt work out for me so well - it amped me up too much, I was paranoid, highly anxious, hallucinating on it.

Everyone reacts differently to these drugs.

Abilify is an side effect friendly antipsychotic.

pros
least likely to cause sedation
no increase in prolactin, in some cases it decreases prolactin levels
very low extrapyramidal side effects (but causes eps symptoms at high doses)
No qtc prolongation
No weight gain in most patients

cons:
Its medium in terms of efficacy when compared to other antipsychotics

I take Abilify. I havenā€™t had any negative side effects apart from the dreaded weight gain. I have gained 18 kgs in the last few months.

It makes it so I can function, but i have to take 40 mg a day to keep the hallucinations at bay. I still have slowed reflexes on the road, but risperdal was worse. It causes little weight gain. Iā€™ve gained like 2 lbs a month since upping it to 30 mg, but before that I didnā€™t experience weight gain on it. If I start exercising i should be able to burn two pounds a month and keep a steady weight. Plus i started taking two classes last semester and I had a tendency to stress eat, so it may not have been all abilifyā€™s fault. Iā€™m taking the generic of abilify, and I didnā€™t notice any difference between the brand name and the generic. It also causes insomnia. At first I thought that I was sleeping 12 hours a day everyday, but I still had huge bags under my eyes. It took me a long long time to realize that I actually had insomnia, and would just lie around exhausted but not get any REM sleep. Now Iā€™m taking a sleeping pill for that.

Geodon makes you megalomaniacal. Abilify makes a person feel invincible. Sadly they are only side effects. Have you seen that movie ā€œThe Other Guysā€? Well the characters played By Dwayne ā€œThe Rockā€ Johnson and that other good actor, were inspired by officers on Geodon and Abilify. Also Geodon desensitizes people. Until they play the video game ā€œCall of Dutyā€ then they cry again like normal people do.

I think you just had a bad reaction to it because honestly none of this was true for me when I took them.

Fair enough. Geodon does make you want the last word statistically speaking. There is a video game called ā€œResident Evilā€ or ā€œBio-Hazardā€ overseas. In the storyline there is something called the G-virus. This is an allusion to studies done on soldiers using Geodon as opposed to those not on Geodon. No offense.

I donā€™t know if Iā€™d willingly infect myself with that like William Birkin did even if I was dying like him when he did it. The fact Iā€™d be biologically immortal would just suck. And then compounded by the fact every injury I get would experience severe mutations when regenerating. Just no.

It worked but I put on a lot of weight. All the doctorā€™s said the drug was ā€˜weight neutralā€™ and blamed the weight gain on me! As soon as I stopped taking it the weight gain stopped too. However the weight has not fallen off. I am going to have to diet. Also, I had no libido whatsoever whilst on Abilify.
