LOL! I think @JustTrish wins best reply in my opinion.
Why do I have to keep saying this?! @parallelmind please refrain from making sweeping generalizations about entire categories of people.
I am pretty sure @parallelmind IS Irish.
I just call it a psych ward.
But in older Danish terms, people would call it “galehus”, which means “crazy-house”
Younger people just say ‘psyk’
I call it a psychiatric hospital.
First thing that pops in my mind is “mental hospital”
I think folk in Scotland tend to just say ‘the ward’. It’s what I say anyway
One of the greatest things about Irish people is the ability to laugh at ourselves. No need to to take it so seriously. Lighten up.
And yes, I AM Irish.
Indeed I am. So, I know what I’m talking about.
I was simply quoting Sigmund Freud and agreeing with him. If you are Irish and were offended, I apologise. But, as an Irish person you generally have a self-deprecating sense of humour and the ability to laugh at yourself. Something severely lacking in the responses I’ve received.
I totally agree! Us Aussies have a similar ‘take the piss’ humour.
The land of the lost lol
I just call it “the psych ward”.
I don’t care if you were quoting someone else. It was s prejudiced thing to say. If you’re Irish yourself, then I see why you found it funny rather than hurtful, but the other Irish people here didn’t agree with you. As I’m not Irish, I don’t feel it’s my place to tell Irish folks they should or shouldn’t be offended. People feel how they feel about things, and it’s just my job to make sure the rules are being followed.
I think you need to calm down. If you are that obsessed with the rules, then why don’t you apply to be a moderator? You’re not being paid to “make sure the rules are being followed”, so chill out. Maybe you need your medication adjusted?
I am a moderator. This is my job. I need to make sure rules are being followed. I don’t much enjoy having to be that person, but I am. The other moderators are @Moonbeam @anon9798425 and @Rhubot.
Well, let me explain: the “Irish people” who took offence at my comment are obviously not Irish at all, because no Irish person would take offence at such an innocent insight. We laugh at ourselves. We refuse to take ourselves too seriously. As an Irishman myself, I know this to be true.
Some people on this website have a full-time job that only entails waiting to be offended.
