I was remembering that when I was a child I wanted to be a paleontologist when I grew up. It got me wondering, what did everyone want to be when they were children? Wanted to be a cowboy? An astronaut? A super hero? Feel free to share.
I figure it will be interesting to see what people dreamt of being way before the illness.
I always wanted to be a contortionist in a circus! I even was in an amateur circus for several years. But when I was about 11 I dislocated both of my shoulders and my doctor essentially said my dreams are crushed. My shoulders dislocate really easily now.
I wanted to be a surgeon. I was inspired by the tv series “trapper john md”. Then I saw “top gun” when I was 16 ish and thought I wanted to enjoy my 20s rather than being in med school.
In the end I ended up doing engineering and failed to get my degree.
But I really enjoyed my 20s ! So something worked out.
I wanted to be a teacher when I was very young, then I wanted to study chromosomal identification when I was in 9th grade. That would have been awesome. Man, I want a microscope.
I never really wanted to be anything. My brother wanted to be a lawyer and i said i would live in a van parked in his driveway. That was my life’s goal.
@Wave Same for me. I think it was part of my delusions. I thought I was destined to be a famous movie star with huge political influence. SMH. I’m actually glad it didn’t come true.
i wanted to work for NASA not necessarily be an astronaut but apart of their mission of space exploration. that was 6th grade i remember.
around the same time i had an interest but not a dedication to join the military and even tried joining after school but didnt make it past the recruiter office, not sure on all the details why though. one day i spent 4 hours filling out paperwork. i know i had high blood pressure and was taking atenolol for it at the time. and years later i went to a different office the one in my state, i went to a neighbor state recruiter office because it was closer and the guy in state said they should have sent me to in state but they never told me that. i didnt think it made much difference.
i was a skateboarder for many years in my teens, i never wanted to go pro because i live in rural country folk area and there wasnt a big scene of skaters even tho there was some plus unless we went to the same town that the neighbor state was in the same one i went to the military recruiter… we had to skate street instead of vert because that was the closest skate park. i think one time i competed in a tournament for vert street but i was sloppy.
other than that in my later years of teen i wanted to do IT work or computer science degree and ended up going to local college and graduating with a 1 year cert in computers.
I wanted to be many different things at different times: a biologist, geologist, marine biologist, nurse, teacher, actress, model. My aspirations degraded the older I got.
Me too I wanted to be so many things at different points a physiotherapist a nutritionist a doctor a hairdresser an actress a teacher… Etc.
But my main thing was preventative healthcare everything else was fleeting ideas
First it was a firefighter, then archeologist, then a stock broker then I grew up ended up becoming a full blown gangster lmao jus playing the first part is true tho
A lawyer. I learned from tv shows early on that justice costs money, and I wanted to represent family and friends for free, and become a public defender for people who couldn’t afford an attorney. They said a BA would get me into Law School, so I chose English and went for it but got sick in my third year.
