Were you named after someone? How did your parents pick your name?

My first name is super common for women my age.

I think my mom just thought it was cute at the time and went with it.

However, my middle name is actually the first name of my mother’s close friend.

There are no pictures of this woman I’m named after, but I’ve always kind of had a certain image in my head.

Strange thing.

My sister wasn’t named after anything.

She has a more uncommon name.

It was a last minute thing because the OB had told my mother her whole pregnancy the baby was a boy.

So they had to think fast when he was a she.

Anyway,

Are you named after anyone or do you know how your name was chosen?

My parents gave the name choosing to someone else. For religious reasons.

It’s a beautiful name.

And does actually mean heart and beauty when translated to English.

With my son,

We (his parents, my husband and I) decided not to know the baby’s gender.

Right before I was being taken to the OR the daddies gave us an envelope that had a note with two names.

One for a girl, one for a boy.

They were basically the same, just one more feminine.

He’s named after a family friend of theirs that lost her battle with cancer at a very young age.

Early teens I believe.

It’s a very unique name.

I love it.

As per family tradition my dads sister named me. Mostly I hated my name throughout high school but you know it’s very unusual so I’m glad she named me now.

Like you, my parents were expecting a boy so hadn’t picked out a girl’s name for me. My father was immature and named me after a childhood friend to make mother jealous. A German name while we were at war with Germany. Just to be hateful. He was mentally ill and couldn’t love his own flesh and blood.

My mom wanted to jump James Bond.

Or at least the actor who played him (this was in 1968).

I’ve had four different names. My name given by my biological mom. My name given by the orphanage. My name given by my first adoptive family. My name given by my last adoptive family. The only names I value are my name given by my biological mom and the name I have now. My final parents named me after a children’s tv show. Lol.

If they had known they would have named me Jude, after St Jude, the patron saint of lost causes.

Only joking, I’ve made a good recovery from Sz after years of struggle.
